 "They certainly don't hear like us," Kalea agreed as she hopped and skipped along beside her sister. "We can sneak right up on them! And I wonder how they defend themselves with those little rouded nails..." She paused to examine her own, four finge , and flexed her retractable claws a few times. "They're so slow and weak, but they think they're so much better than we are."

Kalea looked up at her big sister with wide, clear eyes. "If only they weren't so scared! They hide behind their big walls and scream , but when we meet them in the woods they scream mercy and run." For a moment her emerald eyes were clouded, but then she shook her long golden-brown curls and smiled sweetly.

"Let's keep the next one we find, Nashy! Let's talk to it and teach it not to be scared!"
