Subject: I gotz to agree...corn on the barbie is the best...
In reply to: Sammy (with crud between his teeth) 's message, "Had my first ear of jersey sweet corn yesterday.......Mmmmmmm!" on 10:15:42 08/03/03 Sun

...we just got back from your neck of the country. The river road is looking spiffy lately, it must be all the new owners cleaning up the riverside properties. We all went to a wine paring/menu tasting dinner in {I think}Oxford. It's a little North off #31. Anyway, I wanted to stop at that roadside place on 31 but it came up sooner than i thought and I passed it by. Others would have just hit the breaks and let everyone else swerve around them...so I missed my chance until next week when my aunt & uncle come down this way for dinner.

...As a note for all those backyard cooks, if all you have is supermarket corn, this is what I do:

Cut off the kernels as close to the cob as you can get.

Heat olive oil, a clove or two of minced garlic, a little minced onion {EXCEPT SUMMERTIME on the onion} a pat of butter, pinch of salt and pepper and I like a pinch of parsley...in a skillet. Crank up the heat to medium-high and add the corn.

Cook the corn in this mixture, flipping often until golden brown. The brown color is the sugars being drawn out and carmelizing.
