Okay folks

(Just got back this afternoon and been in the pub since, so a bit pished - don't start back at work till Wednesday , woooahhh!)

(p.s. if I get the running order wrong, so what...)

Maybe this is the first feedback from the Vibe, not sure cause I don't think I've read all the posts, anyway:

Controversial!, better get my BurnMeNot(TM) suit on.....

Went to the pre-pre-Vibe (semi-acoustic warm-up) at the Cobblestone. Good wee venue which we enjoyed, chap (Decko I think Smiley called him?) was not bad though no point in having the other guy on guitar, anyway they would feature later at the Vibe... Grand Slam, well, 2 guys strumming exactly the same chords on acoustics (not even at different frets for a slight timbre variation) is a waste of a guitar for me, there were four guys in all involved in that 'acoustic' sketch and the lack of imagination was, well, let's call it lazy... they could learn something from Parris at last years pre-Vibe. Anyway, gonna try keep this brief:

On to the pre-Vibe: Parris did their usual up-for-it job, those guys always look like they're having fun and they did a good job. There was a bunch of lads came on (didn't catch the name) who I thought were very good, did P.Walkways amongst others, looked up for it and sounded good. The Southbound Band were brilliant, I love those guitarists, and the singer did a good job, I spoke to people later who didn't like his style, but hey, so it goes... I like him. Trouble Boys, pish. Leane Hart, utter pish. Eric Bell, that was what I was waiting for: he did a coupla blues numbers then Whisky, certainly dragged that out......... anyway I then jumped ship and...

... went round the corner to the Olympia and watched the midnight Limehouse Lizzy L&D gig! Just made it actually, we got there about 12.15 and the band just came on, great gig it was too, best of the (for us curtailed, see below) weekend. I knew the gig was happening obviously (RL threads!), but wasn't aware it was a late gig til I bumped into Teeside Tel at the pre-Vibe who told me it was a midnight job, that made it feasable for us to go after seeing a bit of the pV.

The Vibe. Bit of a let-down for us. My partner wasn't feeling too good so we had to leave way early as it turned out, I wasn't complaining though because what we saw early doors was not a patch on last year. The Decko guy was there again and if he'd just played a couple of acoustic numbers himself that would've been fine, but instead he was playing with that other guy (who Smiley kept banging on about for some reason) but who basically looked like a spare prick in a brothel, then they dragged a kid out to play bongos (I'm saying nothing), then they became an electric band called Emerald... yup, it was draggiiiinnng. Then we had a Rory based trio who were quite good actually, joined by Ditch Cassidy (I believe, reading this off the Vibe website!) and he did a good Blues Singer number and then the wheels came off completely with Lean Hart again, bloody awful, honestly, totally murdered some classic songs, if anybody is gonna tell me they thought that sounded good and was a fitting tribute to Phil (and I aint interested in age/gender handicaps, it has to be judged on merit) then I'm gonna tell you I'm sorry, but it was fuckin rubbish.

Anyway, this post is getting kinda long, I've missed lots but this was just my off-the-top thoughts, in summary:

Great Vibe weekend!

highlights for me: Limehouse(!), SBB.

Cheers
JB
