Hi, I've just got back from a trip to Spain where I have a holiday home. I thought you might be interested to know that Eric is still gigging in the Mazarron area. I saw him perform of Saturday night (11th Feb 2006) and I asked him for his autograph, had a quick chat and took a couple of photos. It wasnt a Roller gig, it was an accoustic set with 2 other guys and they performed covers of songs by The Eagles, Joni Mitchell etc. Eric was really nice to me and meeting him was the highlight of my holiday and I wasnt even expecting him to be there. If you guys want anymore information I'm happy to give a more indepth acount when I get time.

[> [> Subject: Hi, he has a house about 10 minutes drive from mine where he's having some building work done at the moment. I asked him if he intends to stay in Spain and he was non-comittal (although he has a house there so he obviously has ties). I said I hope he would still be there in May when I go back and he just smiled. (Actually I've now decided to go back in April so hopefully I'll see him again then. There is very little publicity for him gigging in Mazarron, I just came apon his gig by complete chance as it didnt even advertise him by name, just the name of the group which is Martha's Vineyard. I've got some photos but they arent very good, I'm not sure how to put them on here, any ideas?

OK heres my story about meeting Eric in Spain last Saturday. As previously mentioned, I have a house in Spain and was over there for a weeks holiday. I know Eric had been performing there around Christmas as I saw a couple of his gigs advertised in the paper and I thought "Wow, how exciting, Eric Faulkner's playing in my town" but as I wasnt going to be there over Christmas I just put it to the back of my mind. Anyway, we arrived in Spain and were talking to our next door neighbour who works as a DJ at the Commercial Centre (place with shops, bars and restaurants) on my housing development , and he mentioned that Eric has a residency at the pub "El Tardio" in the Commercial Centre every Monday night. I dont know if Eric performs as the evening is an "Unplugged" event where anyone can go along and play an instrument, sing, do whatever etc and Eric is the host. Again I thought "WOW" must go to that but it turned out that my husband was going out to play snooker with some of the guys so I didnt have anyone to go with. All week I thought about it and regretted that I hadnt gone to see him.

On our last night, which was Saturday, I said to my hubby "We'll have a few drinks at the Commercial Centre around late afternoon ,then get a takeaway and go home early" (The previous night had been rather a heavy one)! So that's what we did, we ordered the takeaway, and popped into El Tardio for a drink before going back to collect the food, and THERE HE WAS, Oh My God, Eric Faulkner.

He was doing a warm up / sound check for that evening when he would be playing accoustic covers of songs with 2 others guys and they called themselves Martha's Vineyard. I had seen a few posters advertising Martha's Vineyard but Eric's name wasnt mentioned on them so there was no association to be made.

We went to the bar and ordered our drinks and I said to the barman, "Is Eric here every Monday" the barman then went on to tell me that El Tardio has its most successful nights ever on a Monday when Eric is hosting the Unplugged show. He also said Eric has a house locally and he thinks Eric may be planning to move onto this housing development "(OH MY GOD, ERIC MIGHT BE LIVING ON THE SAME ESTATE AS ME)" The barman also said that he's a really nice guy and I should go over and talk to him.

So, we found ourselves a seat and by this time I was a nervous wreck (I'm a pretty shy person anyway) but after a couple of minutes I walked over and said "Eric, can I have your autograph please". He stopped what he was doing, smilled at me (WOW) and took my pen and paper from me. He asked my name and wrote "To Anita, Lots of Love Eric, B C Rollers". I asked if he was staying in Spain now and he said "I've got a house at ******* and I've got the builders in at the moment so I'm just keeping myself busy doing this". he said "Are you coming to the gig tonight" and you wont believe what I said "No, we've just ordered a takeaway and are going to have a quiet night" (STUPID STUPID STUPID WOMAN)!!! I said I hope you'll still be here when I come back in May and he smiled and went back to his rehearsal.

I went back to my hubby and told him what a stupid idiot I'd been and how I wanted the ground to swallow me up. We finished our drinks and went to collect our takeaway.

On the way back to our house I decided I wasnt going to miss the gig so we went home, had a couple of mouthfuls of food, I changed my clothes and we went straight back to El Tardio where the soundcheck was still going on, but the bar was completely empty now and I felt like an idiot going back in there 20 minutes later in different clothes. Eventually I plucked uo the courage to go in and we sat at the bar and listened to the rehearsal. When they finished playing it was 9pm and Eric came over to the bar. My husband, who wasnt the slightest bit star struck, asked him what time they were on and Eric said "10 o clock if anyone turns up" then he lit a cigarette, exchanged a few words with the other guitarists and left the bar.

He came back in about 10 minutes later and a few more people were in the bar by this time. Again he came over to the bar and my husband asked how long they would be playing for and Eric said "It depends how many people are here". He ordered a drink and went to the back of the room where he sat at a table and went through some books (which I assumed were songbooks), then he came back to the bar and said to the barmen "Have you got a Pritt Stick behind here" they said no and gave him some cellotape, and he went back to his table and began sticking things in his books.

Eventually the bar was starting to fill up so we took our seats at the front and waited for the gig to start. It was about one minute to ten and Eric was still in his tracksuit(jogging) bottoms and flip flops and I was wondering if he was going to bother getting changed when suddenly (and I probably shouldnt be telling you this) he had a quick look around to check no one was looking (except me) and began to change his trousers right there in the same room, then he took his T shirt off and changed into a shirt. Well that was me done in, I have now been in the same room as Eric Faulkner when he was semi naked, doesnt get much better than that does it.

So, onto the gig. It was very good, lasting nearly 3 hours with vocals being shared between Eric and one of the other guys. The songs ranged from The Eagles, Rod Stewart, Jackson Browne, Manfred Mann and loads more. Eric had a lovely voice and played some excellent guitar. They had a couple of breaks lasting about 20 minutes each and the other guys came and sat at a table next to us where their friends and family were sitting. Eric did briefly come and say hello to one or two people but mainly he went to the back of the room on his own and went through his books again. I got the impression the group hadnt played together very much as they stopped and started several songs, all at Eric's say so.

The gig finished at 12.45am and it was a slightly hurried finish, nobody said "this is the last song" and Eric didnt say a "thankyou and goodnight", infact he didnt say anything and after Eric left his mic stand one of the other guys came back to his mic and said "thankyou" signalling the end.

Then Eric came over to the table of friends and family and clapped one of the guitarists on the back and said "Well that's the first one overwith". He was standing right next to us so my hubby said "great gig" and Eric said "thanks".

Then he went to the back of the room again and started packing up his stuff so we finished our drinks and left.

Just another observation from the evening was that Eric didnt have anybody close with him at the gig that he appeared to want to spend time with.

So that's it, the story of my evening with Eric Faulkner which lasted about 7 hours in total. It was the best night of my holiday and I've been reliving it over and over in my head ever since.

I know I've gone on abit, probably giving far too many details, so I hope I havent bored you all. (and I hope Eric never reads this or I'd be mortified).

If you have any questions that I havent already answered let me know.

Anita

[> [> Subject: Hi Lorie, I'm pleased you enjoyed my post. I'm really sorry to have to dissapoint you but I cant answer the question about boxers or briefs, he kept his T shirt on which was long enough to cover his underwear and it was so quick he was fully changed within 30 seconds. He turned his back to the room when he changed his T shirt so I didnt get to see his chest either. I saw his legs and back though and that was good enough for starters hahahaha.

[> Subject: I'm amazed by your self-control. Of course, I am not married so I wouldn't have to exercise that much but I'm sorry, a half-nekkid man in the same room that has that much charisma is just asking for it! LOL! Gimme! Gimme!
