14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

Subject: Fire Restrictions Going Into Effect for the California Desert Areas

California Desert District
Fire Restrictions Going Into Effect for the California Desert Areas
As of May 15, 2012 the Bureau of Land Management has issued fire restrictions on public lands in the California desert, including requiring permits for campfires and barbecues.

Above-normal rainfall this winter and spring has produced prolific growth of desert vegetation, including highly flammable invasive grasses.

"Historically, these conditions have fueled very large wild fires," said Teri Raml, BLM Desert District Manager. "These fire restrictions are needed to reduce the wildfire threat to private property and the fragile desert ecosystem."

Effective May 15, 2012 all campfires and barbecues are prohibited on BLM-managed lands within Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties close to urban areas, even within camp sites. Portable stoves with gas, jellied petroleum or pressured liquid fuel are authorized with a valid California campfire permit, but the public is asked to be extremely careful with their use and to carry a shovel and water with them at all times.

On all other BLM land in the California Desert District, campfires and barbecues are allowed, but only with permits. This includes all BLM-managed lands east of Highways 395 and 14, north of Highways 138 and 18, as well as east of Highways 247, 62, 111, and 86. In San Diego County, the restrictions are in effect south of Highway 78 and east of County Road S-2 and Interstate 8 to the Mexican border.

Permits are available through the CDD office, all BLM field offices, fire/ranger stations, and from all BLM patrol personnel. Anyone convicted of violating a fire prevention order can be fined up to $1,000, receive up to 12 months in jail, or both, and may be liable for the cost of damages and suppression of a wildfire that may have resulted from the unauthorized campfire or barbeque.

For more information, or to obtain a permit, contact the BLM’s CDD office at (951) 697-5200, our local field offices in Barstow, (760) 252-6000; El Centro, (760) 337-4400; Needles, (760) 326-7000; Palm Springs-South Coast, (760) 833-7100; or Ridgecrest, (760) 384-5400.

-----------------------------------------------------------
It is the policy of the Bureau of Land Management to take all necessary actions to protect human life, the public lands and the resources and improvements thereon through the prevention of wildfires. Wherever possible, the Bureau of Land Management will comply with 43 CFR 9212.2 requiring the BLM to establish fire prevention orders to assist with wildland fire prevention. These efforts will also compliment and support state and local wildfire prevention efforts throughout the geographical area. This geographical area consists of public lands within the California Desert Conservation Area (CDCA) and public lands outside the CDCA in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego Counties.

Under the authority of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 (43 U.S.C. 1701 et. Seq.) and pursuant to 43 CFR 9212.2, the following fire prevention orders are issued:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Year-round Fire Restrictions

These restrictions shall apply to all public lands within the California Desert District regardless of stage restrictions and are applicable year round. These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in Title 43 CFR 9212.1 They include:

Fireworks The use or possession of fireworks, including “safe and sane” is hereby prohibited on all public lands of the California Desert District.

Firearms and Ammunition The possession or discharge of a firearm using incendiary, tracer, steel core, or armor piercing ammunition is hereby prohibited on all public lands of the California Desert District.

Burning No person shall burn, ignite or cause to burn any tire, petroleum product, wires, magnesium, or any other hazardous or explosive materials.

Spark Arresters All off-road vehicles being operated on public lands must be equipped with a properly installed spark arrester pursuant to 43 CFR 8343.1 (C) and California Vehicle Code 38366(a). The spark arrester must meet either the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Forest service Standard 5100-1a, or the 80% efficiency level standard determined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAEs) recommended practices J335 or J350.

Seasonal Restrictions

A. End of fire season (generally October but may be extended due to extreme fire danger) to May 15 – generally campfires and barbecues are allowed on all public lands of the California Desert District without a permit subject to proper clearance of flammable fuels to a minimum of five feet and having shovel or extinguishing tools handy.

B. May 15 to end of fire season – All public lands within the California Desert District will be considered to be in Stage I restrictions (see C. below). Some areas that may be experiencing extreme fire danger may be placed into Stage II restrictions.

C. Stage Restriction Definitions:

1. Stage I Restriction – Campfires, barbecues and gas stoves are allowed with a permit. All public lands within the California Desert Conservation Area (CDCA) shall be in Stage I restrictions. Please check with individual local field offices for further information on restrictions.

2. Stage II Restriction – Setting, building, maintaining, attending, or using open fire of any kind, except campfires within approved fire pits and grills provided for in developed recreation sites, is prohibited. Controlled flame devices such as portable stoves fueled by petroleum or LPG products are allowed by permit.

3. Stage III – Setting, building, maintaining, attending, or using open fire of any kind is prohibited throughout the California Desert District. Controlled flame devices such as portable stoves fueled by petroleum or LPG products are allowed only by permit. Smoking is only permitted within enclosed vehicles or camp trailers.

Stage I areas may be elevated to Stage II during periods of extreme fire danger.

Title 43 CFR 9212.4 provides that any person who knowingly and willfully violates the regulations of 9212.1 of this title shall upon conviction, be subject to a fine of not more than $1,000 or to imprisonment of not more than 12 months or both.

These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in Title 43 CFR 9212.1.

I will be at the MORE truck race this weekend (may 19-20) and am hoping to take off with some truck friends for an overnight adventure to the ZZYZX and Afton Cyn area, returning Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately I have to tow my play truck out there and was wondering if anybody is planning on being in the Lucerne area camping Saturday night to leave my tow truck with. You would be under no obligation to keep it safe or wait until I return, I am just leery of leaving it alone in the middle of the desert (plenty of trust in God, just not much in the local hoodlums). I could even make Cougar Buttes or North Anderson work if I had to.

Thanks, Brian

CONCEPT:

RUTS would like to put together a Church Directory for a flyer we could have available by Meltdown. The idea is to provide a list of "RUTS Recommended" Christian Churches listed by Cities. Perhaps some of our Moto friends would like to visit with us. Feel free to put in any and all churches you would recommend, either your current fellowship or others you would be comfortable both recommending AND visiting.

FLYER TEXT (1st Draft)

"RUTS would like to extend an invitation to join a member and/or visit our churches. Many of these churches have Saturday or Sunday Night services in addition to Sunday services. Some are more traditional and many are non-denominational.

We also welcome any calls for Christian service if you or a loved one needs prayer, visitation, or a meal brought to a shut in, or to help a family who's in need. As the Lord provides. There are no strings attached.

I'm sorry to say that I (Bill) have taken a job with my current employer (Boeing) in the Seattle, WA area. I will be moving there this weekend. Lori will join me when we figure out the best way for her to end her teaching career.

That pretty much ends my racing in SoCal for the year. It was a pleasure to be a part of the RUTS family and I hope we will be down here again in the future. For the past 6 (or so) years as RUTS members, we have enjoyed the Christian fellowship and will forever cherish the memories.

George - Please find a pit captain replacement for the Desert Daisies for us.

Keep us in your prayers. This is a very stressful time in our lives.

Lost Mine Poker Run 2012
Thanks everyone who braved the storm to make the March Poker Run an event to remember.
We had 80 entries and raised over $1700.00 for the Holts' ministry in the nation of Georgia. It
took a formidable spirit to ride out in the teeth of the storm and we had all ages suit up in
various kinds of raingear to tackle both loops. My enduro jacket was soaked by the time we
reached the rock palace and I had to pull out my emergency trash bag. My gloves were soaked,
.my hands were freezing and my goggles were blurry but I figured if the kids can make it so can
1. My riding group included Julie Angell, Cathy Saldana and Anthony Saldana Jr.. After about
11 miles we reached the 22/45 mile split and I asked Anthony (who was riding a Yam 85cc
minibike) which loop he wanted to complete. He called out through the rain "45 miles,
definitely!" I was kind of hoping for the shorter loop but we slogged on through the mud,
splashing through puddles, crossed one new river and stopped a couple of times to clean the
mud out of our wheels. We thought we'd reached Heaven when we made it to check 3 and
found Art Whitney and Winston Beaumont under the shelter of a railroad trestle and Art asked
"How many hot dogs do you want?" I've never tasted finer dogs.
Other people who helped out were Randy Hettema and Paul Beaumont (down from Montana)
who both helped with layout on Friday, Sandy Estrada who led us in song around the campfire,
Fred Massari who pulled ribbon on Sunday and our president Scott Burnett who helps put
everything together and is quick to set-up or move a tarp to keep us out of the rain. It was a
weekend of great people, great riding and great ministry.
Dave

Rain is forecast for this weekend so it will be a perfect time to get out in the desert! Looking at various weather forecast sites, I've seen anywhere from 30% to 70% chance of rain on Saturday. Because the Poker Run is a follow-the-map ride and you can leave whenever you want to, you can try and dodge the rain. I will leave the checks out until Sunday afternoon if it works better for people to ride the loops Sunday morning. As for me, I love the smell of the desert when it rains, and the traction on wet desert can't be beat. Plus I'm trusting the Lord to bless us with a great weekend that will benefit the Holts and God's Kingdom work.

Hi RUTS friends! I've been thinking of you all recently so thought I'd touch base with you. We miss the seeing you all at the RUTS rides. For years, we attended almost every club ride. It's funny that when our neighbors saw our motorhome come out of storage, they knew it was the third weekend of the month and we would be headed out to the dez. We have some great memories...especially those around the RUTS campfire! Anyway, what has kept us away from RUTS for 2 years???? Mike-work travel, Dorinda-neck problems, Keaton & Kylie - grown-up kids busy with school and work, and Keaton's bike needing some major work. Well, the bike is in the shop now...and who knows maybe we can get out to a club ride in the near future! It would be great to see you all again! God bless each of you and your families and keep those bikes blazin' the trails!
In Christ, the Browning Family (Mike, Dorinda, Keaton, & Kylie)

Praise the Lord for the RUTS pit crew at checkers!

I recently met Brad and Sam and they invited me and the guys to have RUTS pit for us. We had never done a desert race before other than an Enduro so we had no clue what to expect. There was 6 of us coming down from Fresno with no support or pit help. RUTS to the rescue! What an awesome experience to have an organized pit to help us out. All of us were blown away at the generosity - we really did feel like Kings!

Thank you for the advice, towels, food and fellowship! God Bless!

Kevin Malloy, Trailboss for this weekends ride, can not make it. His son had to go to the hospital for a sprained neck. We wont have anybody "officially" marking the campsite. If your the first one there, please use a paper plate and put up some RUTS directional arrows (you can print them off the website, in the MEMBER forms section). Fly the flag, look for other RUTSters and make the best of the weekend! Have fun ya'll!

The campsite is 4 miles down the S22. There will be a state maintained offhighway vehicle area, complete with a jeep obstacle course on the LEFT, go another 50 or 100 yards, as the roads curves to the RIGHT...the turn into the camp area is on the LEFT. Pull in and find a spot, mark in your turn with a paper plate and post something on your trailer to identify RUTS. Here is a PHOTO...

We're not always aware that others are watching us at the races as we have our prayer circle in our pits before we split up to ride out to the start line.

Look who captured us on video:

http://www.deserthoundsvideos.com/

In the 100s National Hare & Hound 2011 video, a group of praying RUTS is at the beginning, followed immediately by Travis Green sitting on c19 and then Brad Pace with his dad gassing up his bike.

That's great coverage, folks! Good witness to the crowd too. If they ever need prayer before the races, they know where to go!

"In light of the events that took place yesterday at DMC National, I am making the following request.

Now don't take offense, but Rescue 3 CP is not a tracker of slow or overdue racers. Believe me, I know what you guys are going through when your husbands, sons, wives and daughters do not cross that finish line when you think they should. I am the mother and wife of a racer. There was a time when my son was famously last every single race, remember?

Your first point of contact should be with your pit captain. They should have a radio. If no pit captain is available please see the appropriate finish line or referee. They will call Bob Thompson, aka Relay. Relay has the ability to reach most if not all check points. He will ascertain the last check point your racer has been through. He works closely with the sweep riders. He is your best point of contact. If Bob can not reach a checkpoint then I will jump in and help.

If your racer is injured or reported to be injured I will dispatch one of my teams that is closest to the area to find your racer and report back on their status.

There was a lot going on behind the scenes yesterday with Rescue 3 and the CP. Phone calls being made, coordination of resources both R3 and County EMS. I found myself having to stop, ask people who were standing outside the CP what they needed only to find out that "homecheck" sent them to me for a status check. (I am not calling out DMC, all clubs do it.)

I was dealing with a very private and personal issue yesterday and having people standing outside, potentially hearing what was happening was just wrong. You guys know when R-3 is busy. Most of you have radios. When a situation occurs like yesterday, please respect the rider, their family and their club. You would expect the same.

So my request is simple. Clubs, referees and pit captains, please make Bob Thompson your first point of contact. He should be the one you hear on the radio. If you are hearing me, then you know it's not good. This is the only way R-3 can be effective in helping you and your racer."

Kim, Rescue 3, CP

For those of you who didn't hear about this, Lance Black from So Cal MC died at DMC's National H&H last Sunday. He was about two miles in on the second loop. Two play riders found him. It has been said that he died instantly, I'm supposing, from crashing on the course.

Here's the D-37 thread about it:

http://district37ama.org/forums/showthread.php?t=50628

I thought perhaps Scott Burnett would want to put up a post on the thread from RUTS. But others in RUTS certainly can too to offer comfort. Lance's wife has been reading the thread.

Lance also had two children. They are 12 and 14 years old.

You can imagine that everyone in So Cal is hurting, as are the people in District 37, and of course, Lance's family. Please pray for them all.

Thanks

As Jerry Grabow mentioned last night (Thursday, Jan. 5) at the D-37 Off-Road Committee meeting, below is the email from Senator Anderson's office. Please forward this to your club members and any other OHV enthusiasts and ask them to contact Senator Anderson.

Thank you,

Janine Kohls (D-37 secretary)

On January 5, 2012 Ed Sprecco, District Director, Office of Senator Joel Anderson wrote:

"Hi Scott,

Thank you for your call requesting information about the status of Daphne Greene’s appointment. I also appreciate your request for information on how concerned citizens can voice their opinion on this matter. We’re always happy to help you.

On January 1st, 2012, Daphne Green was terminated from her position as OHMVR Deputy Director by Governor Brown. Daphne Green has played a very important role in providing California’s OHV enthusiasts the freedom to use their off road vehicles, while also complying with state rules and regulations. Throughout her seven years of service, she has effectively balanced the interests of the OHV community, as well as environmentalists. She is exactly the type of fair and balanced public servant we need in this state.

As you know, State Senator Joel Anderson of Senate District 36 is a long-time advocate for keeping public lands open for the public to use. He is deeply concerned that if Daphne Greene’s termination has harmful implications for the OHV commission. That is why he sent the attached letter to Governor Brown at the end of December.

I know many off-roaders are outraged about Daphne Greene’s termination as well. Citizens that wish to make their voices heard on this issue, should send letters to Senator Anderson’s district office at:

Senator.Anderson@senate.ca.gov

or

State Senator Joel Anderson
500 Fesler Street, Suite 201
El Cajon, CA 92020

You can also express your concern by going to Senator Joel Anderson’s website at http://cssrc.us/web/36/ and selecting “Contact Me”, then “Email Me” and selecting “Support of Daphne Greene” from the select an issue dropdown menu.

Thank you for your time and concern and please call me with any questions."

"First, I would like to thank the Jackrabbits for a job well done. The starts, finishes and pits this weekend were awesome! It was clear that this club read what was in the SRP and followed it up on the ground. The riders meetings were some of the best and the ribbon at the start areas keeping spectators back was great. Your hard work everywhere showed. Keith, Kelly and crew hit a home run.

The riders of District 37 were also awesome. Everyone attended the riders meetings without an issue. Pit speeds were good as were speeds around the pit area and on Power Line Road and Teagle Wash.

I’m aware of only one issue with spectators being too close to the course and BLM handled the situation. When I walked over to the group they had already moved back or left the area.

There was an issue with a few riders digging their rear tires into the ground to hold their bikes up on the start line, but when I explained to them "why" we aren’t supposed to do that, not one of them complained.

District 37 is working very hard to get the "cost" to the clubs down and actions like this weekend will go a long way in reaching our goal. As stated at our January 5, 2012 Off-Road meeting, we hope to be able to lower the SRP surcharge portion of race entry fees sometime around March or April. I don't think the surcharge will go away entirely, but with weekends like this where our ridership and our clubs do what is spelled out in the SRP operating plan, the BLM can be assured that our events will be safe and that we will follow the "rules.”

Thanks again to everyone. What a great weekend -- and I didn't even take a bike!

Jerry"

Subject: Special Recreation Permit Rules and Guidelines for Pit Layouts at D-37 Races

Author:

Date Posted: 23:11:01 01/03/12 Tue

Did you read the D-37 December 2011 Competition newsletter? On page 6, there is an article about Special Recreation Permit (SRP) Rules and Guidelines for Pit Layouts at D-37 Races. It includes a diagram to show us how pit row should be laid out. With Jackrabbits H&H coming up this weekend, you need to read this.

Keep in mind these rules are not new. We simply have not been following them closely in the past. They are now being enforced by the BLM because of the infamous truck crash a year ago. If clubs up and down pit row do not follow them, the club hosting the event can receive a negative mark by the BLM. This will affect whether we in D-37 can race again in the future. Yep, this is serious, folks.

1. All competitors must obey the 15 mph speed limit (1st gear) in the pit area.

2. Only active pit personnel are allowed within the pit vehicle parking area (where the bikes pull in).

3. Pit personnel MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD.

4. Spectators must remain far back behind the trucks holding the pit items and gas. This also means anyone under 18 years old.

5. All vehicles must be a minimum of 10 feet behind the pit area. (Spectators must remain far behind those vehicles at all times.)

6. All participants are required to have suitable fire extinguishers at their fuel/service pit

Notes: 1. The maximum fuel allowed on the ground is 35 gallons. The rest must remain in the back of the pit trucks.

2. Use a fuel spill control rug under motorcycle while fueling.

Please take the time to familiarize yourself and educate your spectator guests about the SRP pit area rules and guidelines prior to attending a District 37 desert race.

Dec 29th thru Jan 1st. A RUTS tradition dating way back. If you don’t mind bundling up, wearing a beanie and keeping your heater on, then this is the club ride for you. Ok, so its not as warm as Ocotillo Wells over New Years weekend, but we can promise you the riding is great and the crowds are NON existent. This annual club ride will draw 30+ families and its ALWAYS a good time. An Epic Saturday “long ride” and a Sunday morning church service will help make this a memorable New Years with your RUTS family. Have a model rocket? Bring them because we will have “Rocket Rampage” on Saturday late afternoon. Who’s will go the highest? Camp will be marked by WEDNESDAY mid day, TWO entrances will be marked in, traditional and 20 Mule Team. Some planed rides, like Blackwater Wells, Randsberg, the Husky memorial, fast rides as well as slow rides. Rides will start around 9 AM or 10 AM.
Friday night General meeting and fellowship, starts at 7 PM
Saturday night worship, Bible study, communion, dessert pot luck, fellowship, starts at 7 PM.
Sunday AM worship and Bible study at 9 AM.Anyone who wants to lead a ride let Tom or Sonny know. Everyone sign in at Tom’s trailer when you get there.

The FIRST link below will take you to the Fremont Peak Road entrance, 13.5 miles NORTH of Kramer Junction (Hyw 395 and 58) From there, follow the RUTS arrow to the first dry lake BEHIND Fremont Peak. The second entrance (longer, but easier drive) is 4.8 miles NORTH of the Fremont Peak Road entrance.

RUTS Racers,
2012 is the year of the racer! The RUTS officers will be making a consious effort to promote, encourage, support and GROW our race contigent within D37. We will be doing this in many ways. Our first initiative will be to balance our club ride / race schedule for 2012. We will keep the popular club rides, but lose some of the lesser attended club rides. This will mean we may not have a club ride every month as we have in the past. We will choose a D37 RACE on those NON club ride months to attend in force.
Another initiative we are working on is a bit more serious attention to our race pits and race rules. We will go over these things at the MANDATORY racers meeting that will take place on Sunday Janruary 9th at the Jackrabbitts race. The racers meeting will take place AFTER the race at PITS when 90% of the racers have finished the race. I expect the meeting will be 1 hour and will take place around 2pm. If you are a slower rider, you might choose to only do ONE loop, or not race at all. If you are the last one in or you break down, you will likley MISS the meeting. We will TRY to do the meeting while we are waiting for the last racer or two. We will have a videographer at this race to film pre-race, prayer, the BOMB, the pits and the finish. We will create a professional RUTS race video that is 2-3 minutes in length and we will use this video on the website to promte the RUTS racers this year. RACERS, you NEED to be at this race. We expect a FULL pit, so bring a friend, bring a family member. We will have lunch at pits (BBQ) and guest pitters are welcome, as always.
At the racers meeting, we will have pit sign ups, go over this years racers expectations and rules and talk about the new RUTS role in D37 as far as PRE-race prayers.
Its going to be a great year to be an active RUTS racers. I hope to see you there!
Scott Burnett
RUTS President

PS. RUTS Officers, former RUTS racers and non racing club members. Please consider attending this race. If a racers goes down and needs to be picked up off the course, we would prefer to send out a NON racing club member, so the racers can stay in pits and attend the RUTS Race meeting. We will have my rhino available for "chase / racer pickup" to whomever is there to help. We need your help to start this year off right! Please come and join us for the day. Sunday, Jan 9th.

I know many of you do P.U.S.H. but this was just too good and a was a very timely reminder to me—I had to e-share it! Love, John
A man was sleeping one night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light, and God appeared.
The Lord told the man he had work for him to do, and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin.
The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might...
So, this the man did, day after day. For many years he toiled from sunup to sundown, his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all his might!
Each night the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out, feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain.

Since the man was showing discouragement, the Adversary (Satan) decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into the man's weary mind. (He will do it every time!)
"You have been pushing against that rock for a long time and it hasn't moved." Thus, he gave the man the impression that the task was impossible and that he was a failure.
These thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man.
Satan said, "Why kill yourself over this? Just put in your time, giving just the minimum effort, and that will be good enough."
That's what the weary man planned to do, but decided to make it a matter of prayer and to take his troubled thoughts to the Lord.
"Lord," he said, "I have labored long and hard in Your Service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked.
Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half a millimeter. What is wrong? Why am I failing?"
The Lord responded compassionately, "My friend, when I asked you to serve Me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all of your strength, which you have done.
Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push.

And now you come to Me with your strength spent, thinking that you have failed. But, is that really so? Look at yourself.
Your arms are strong and muscled, your back shiny and brown; your hands are callused from constant pressure, your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much, and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. True, you haven't moved the rock.
But your calling was to be obedient and to push and to exercise your faith and trust in My wisdom.
That you have done. Now I, my friend, will move the rock.."
At times, when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what He wants, when actually what God wants
is just simple obedience and faith in Him.
By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains, but know that it is still God Who moves the mountains.
When everything seems to go wrong.................................Just P.U.S.H.

When people just don't understand you..............................Just P.U.S.H.

For some of you old timers like myself... just thought I would shake you up a bit. My wife and 4 sons actually went out to copper city road out of Barstow this last weekend!
My triplet boys go to school with Cris Crandalls kids and he has been twisting my arm to go out with them for some time. I actually rented a bike trailer and took out the old kdx and rmx ( rmx for sale ). My son James is big enough now to ride my bike so I'm looking for another cheap kdx. The triplets were able to do there 1st off road lessons with Cris and did very well for their 1st time out!
So who knows you guys might see the old guy out there again with some new young blood! God bless, hope to see you at the CHRISTmas party!

Rescue 3 Annual Training - BLS Class (Adv First Aid/CPR/AED) Dec 10th
-----------------------------------------------------------

Hey Everyone -

On Saturday December 10th Craig Nuss (DMC)and Retired La Habra Firefighter will be teaching a BLS (Basic Life Support)class to members of Rescue 3. We would also like to open the class up to District people who would like to have this training.

The training will include CPR and AED training along with some first aid. Craig will cover some of the most common injuries seen in the desert and give you a level of comfort when dealing with injuries either on the course or in the pits.

You will receive a BLS certificate to carry in your wallet which is valid for 2 years. This course normally runs at or around $100 per person. Craig is willing to train up to 20 people for the cost of $75 per person.

We will take people on a first come, first served basis. If you are free on the 10th of December, please send me a private message here on the District 37 message board and reserve your spot. The training will be part of Rescue 3's annual training weekend and will be held at Anderson Dry Lake by the kiosk probably starting at noon. It will last four hours.

**Clubs** If you have dedicated pit people, I highly recommend you have them take part in this course. This life-saving knowledge goes way beyond the desert. You never know when you may be in a situation to make a difference.

Feel free to ask me any questions regarding the course. The exact time is still to be determined.

Remember, space is limited so you have to reserve your spot early or you just may miss out.

As always,

Thanks for supporting Rescue 3

Hey Rutsters,

Not sure if anyone is interested but I have 3 passes for 1/2 Day Deep Sea Fishing trip that expires on the 21st of this month. I bought these hoping to take my boys but ran out of time. The vouchers I bought cover a 5 hour trip out of Newport. If you do not have your own reels you will need to rent them. Reel Rental and Bait is $20 per person which is still a pretty good deal. Let me know if interested and I can send you the vouchers but you will need to make the reservations.. Steve 951-326-4878

The wheel has normal scratches and scuffs from tire irons and riding. Otherwise it looks to be straight and in good shape. No noticeable dings, dents or flat spots. No missing spokes. Hub looks good and the wheel bearings seem to be good also! Has a paddle tire on it's in pretty good condition. $250 ask for your RUTS discount.

Note: This is NOT a poker run as described in that old newsletter it's just the map.I couldn't find my other one that was written on a napkin.

Bring wood I won't be out till late Friday night but another Rusters well be out at mid day to mark it in. But if you one of those early birds that's coming out say like Wednesday you can mark it in too! Bottom line if you don't see signs up you mark it in. If this sounds too confusing you must be riding a Yamaha.

Some of you might remember Steves crash just above the rocks during the Men's Challenge Hill Climb. Unfortunately his XR650 came down on his right foot and broke 3 bones. The good news is that at first the doctors thought he might need surgery but now it's just the cast that he'll have for probably 10 weeks.
Please pray for Steve and his wife Jill at this time. She has not been feeling well for a while and was already working through all of that.
Thanks!

The Beaumont clan is gaining one more rider as it seems Ezra is just about old enough to cruise around with me this weekend at MotoOlypmics, but we need a helmet for him. Does anybody have a Youth Small helmet laying around that someone outgrew that we can borrow for the weekend or purchase for cheap? He has been climbing all over my 50 making Braap! noises and is ready and eager to ride. His head is a 19.5" circumference so I'm pretty sure a Youth Small would fit. I could pick up in the northern LA area this week or meet up on Soggy.

Thank You

Subject: RHR race needs help! Nov. 19/20 at Cougar Buttes

Author:
Julie Angell
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 20:55:06 10/18/11 Tue

RHR's race this year is on November 19/20. Since BLM is not allowing them to host their race Thanksgiving weekend because that's a blackout date, they took over Four Aces' date and kept it as an enduro. November 19th will be the family enduro for all members of the family.

They're looking for volunteers to work the race. Workers will receive one day's enduro work points.

They are looking for 5-10 members from each club to help with ANYTHING that has to do with the race. Let's step up and help them, especially if you are a racer or a racer's parent. You never know when you might need the help of RHR's financial assistance in case of a serious accident at a D-37 sanctioned event and your funds are depleted. This race is all about raising money for RHR so there will be funds available for racers.

You don't have to know anything about an enduro. There are lots of different positions open. Checks are fun and exciting. I've worked them before. Takes you five minutes to learn how.

Please get in touch with Robert Wranosky. Here's the info:

We all need to start signing up for helping out for the RHR Enduro. We are going to stage at Cougar Buttes. This is the plan. We are going to do 2 loops. There will be some common shared course between loops.

Loop #1 “The easy loop” about 35 miles. Loop #2 (2A & 2B) “The hard loop” will be about 50 miles, with a reset at about 35 miles (end of #2A) right at camp, ending the event for some riders (C riders and some A and B's). All other A and B riders get gas, then go on for about 15-20 more miles (#2B). 2B is the same as having a 3rd loop. It just saves us needing another start and finish crew.

The Family Enduro will be about 13 miles using part of the above courses. We already have a lot of miles with all the course markings figured out. So we will need to lay out only about 35-40 more miles to complete the courses.

RHR and Family enduro course layout weekend will be November 5th and 6th. We should be able to do all course work on Saturday the 5th. We are asking each club to round up 5-10 members to contribute to the RHR events. The more people that we have Saturday morning, the faster we can get it all marked and done. I will be staying until Monday the 7th to do mileage, speeds, and check location. We are not planning on doing any course work on November 6th.

PLEASE let me ASAP if you can be involved and what you want or are willing to do! If you are willing to just do general course work on race weekend or do any of the lead jobs below, please email me at rwranosky@trimarkusa.com or send me a private message. Please call me at 949-337-2459 with any questions if you’re not sure about something. It’s a lot better for me to answer questions on the phone.

Listed below are some of the key positions that we need to fill ASAP. Obviously we will need many more bodies for other positions than I have listed. Please get in touch with me ASAP so I can pencil you in somewhere. If you see "???" this means these key position spots are still open and we need YOU!

Please sign up and do as much as you can! I will update this post with people that fill the Key positions as soon as I can. We really want to make this the best event we can. So, PLEASE get on board!

RHR Family Enduro. Saturday November 19th, 2011

“Primary Trail Bosses” Trail Bosses to do all Speeds, Mileage and Check locations for their loop:
Overall Course/event Coordinator for Family and RHR-Rob Wranosky and Erek Kudla
Loop #1 Trail Boss - Rob Wranosky and Erek Kudla
Loop #2 Trail Boss - Rob Wranosky and Erek Kudla
Family Enduro Loop Trail Boss - ??? (you won't need to lay out the course or do course markings) We just need you to do mileage, speeds, and check location.

Referee – Bill Howell. Referee Asst. - Sheri Kibbe
Flyer Coordinator –Erek Kudla at the WEPG
Pre-Entries – Richie Wohlers
Sponsorship Coordinator -???
Working at Sign-ups (need about 5-6 people) -???
Check Crew Coordinator for RHR Enduro - Annie Crawshaw
Check Crew Coordinator for Family Enduro -???

FYI.. All Pre and Post Sweep crews will need 2 people. So, talk to your buddies and let me know!

???We will need people (“Section Leaders”) to design a course section and lead teams to do course marking (you will not have to do Speeds or Check location) I will give each Section leader a GPS start and end point for their section. I will also give them the area they need to lay out within. I will have this info for the Section Leaders on October 30. This is when we will be done with all ribbon and layout for the section of the course that we already have worked out. I will be there on that day to figure out the Section Leaders GPS start and stop points.

“General Course worker” ???
We need as many people to come out on November 5th to tie ribbon, pound stakes and arrows. You will be teamed up with Section Leaders. You will just follow and fill in course markings. Also need people to work on the event weekend. Remember there are 2 events that weekend.

“General Course worker” ????
We will need 20-30 people for the Saturday event (Family Enduro) and 40-50 people to work the Sunday event (RHR Enduro) on race weekend. If you can do both Great! If not, PLEASE do something. We need people to work Start /Finish lines, Road Crossings, Check crews, etc. Please let me know if you have experience running a check crew. If you have never worked on a check crew, no worries. I promise you will have learn a lot and have so much fun!

Please let me know when you are available to work. I really hope we can get most of you to work on both weekends. Layout /course marking (Saturday 5th) and work on race weekend (19th/20th).

Remember! CALL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS. Rob 949-337-2459.

Subject: Who's going to the GVL Club Ride?

Author:
Julie Angell
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 00:09:47 09/10/11 Sat

Hey everyone,

Just checking to see who is planning on attending the GVL Club weekend on Sept 17. There will be lots of different things to do, from green sticker dirt bike riding to hiking, fishing, boating, mountain biking, having a picnic at my cabin with everyone, to just enjoying the scenic, little lake and forest.

I'm ribboning the five-mike hiking trail tomorrow from my cabin. I'll also drive over to Crab Flats to see if it's difficult for large motorhomes/trailers to get in there on the 4 1/2 mile winding dirt road. Abe Baumann says it may be.

I'll find out where people who just show up for the day with their bikes in pickups or little trailers should stage near/in Crab Flats.

Jack Fuller is putting together a challenging, scenic route for the intermediate and expert riders. I'll have maps available for you and it can be ridden anytime Saturday/Sunday that you want. It takes Jack's son Sam 45 minutes to ride it, but he lives up there, so it should take everyone else well over two hours, depending on how many stops you make. Please no novices on this route. There will be step-ups; long, steep up and down hills; a water crossing over big rocks; and single track along the side of a hill. Stuff that intermediates and experts will enjoy and sometimes be challenged by.

Novices and kids can ride over to Big Pine Flats campground. There's a fun, circle trail that starts and ends there for novices and above. I wouldn't take beginner riders on it because it has some short, steep, winding hills on the trail. Fun, but you have to have good balance and throttle control.

Keep riding beyond Big Pine Flats and you may see the horses that sometimes stand along the fence next to a pretty meadow at a ranch up there. Eventually the trail turns to Street Legal Only and you'll need to turn around and come back. It's about a 22 mile round trip from Crab Flats. UTVs, quads, and 4WD vehicles can go on that route too, except for the circle trail.

There's lots to do up there, and the weather should be in the 70s or 80s. Might get chilly at night.

I didn't mention that GVL has a special area of the lake just for dogs. You can throw sticks in the water for them to fetch or just let them swim around. If you bring your dogs up to the cabin for the picnic, please firmly tie them up to a tree, because there are squirrels and chipmunks they'll want to chase. Sorry, they're not allowed in the cabin.

Please call me if you have questions. My number is on the last email that went out to you. I am planning on arriving at the cabin sometime Friday afternoon on September 16. I'll email my cell number to everyone. Verizon works up there but AT&T doesn't, except in some places.

Hope to see lots of you up there!

Please keep the Sam Fuller in your prayers today as he gets released from Arrowhead Regional Hospital, in Colton. Sam was airlifted from the invaders race after a freek over the bars launch took place 1 mile from pits at the end of the first lap. Sam was likely pinned, but doesnt remember anything about the accident. He his a small hole on the side of the ribboned trail while passing another rider and he flew about 100 feet. Jack was at his side very quickly after hearing about the accident on the radio and he was put in and ambulance and taken to camp rock road. He broke his "OTHER" collar bone and has a bruised rib but is otherwise ok. He was airlifted because the ambulance driver was concerned about his head injury. They could have made it to St. Marys hospital in the time it took the helo to arrive and transport him, but oh well.
Praise the Lord he will be ok to ride again aother day.
If you want to give him a check up call later this week, his number is (909) 337-8906
