RUTS Racers,
2012 is the year of the racer! The RUTS officers will be making a consious effort to promote, encourage, support and GROW our race contigent within D37. We will be doing this in many ways. Our first initiative will be to balance our club ride / race schedule for 2012. We will keep the popular club rides, but lose some of the lesser attended club rides. This will mean we may not have a club ride every month as we have in the past. We will choose a D37 RACE on those NON club ride months to attend in force.
Another initiative we are working on is a bit more serious attention to our race pits and race rules. We will go over these things at the MANDATORY racers meeting that will take place on Sunday Janruary 9th at the Jackrabbitts race. The racers meeting will take place AFTER the race at PITS when 90% of the racers have finished the race. I expect the meeting will be 1 hour and will take place around 2pm. If you are a slower rider, you might choose to only do ONE loop, or not race at all. If you are the last one in or you break down, you will likley MISS the meeting. We will TRY to do the meeting while we are waiting for the last racer or two. We will have a videographer at this race to film pre-race, prayer, the BOMB, the pits and the finish. We will create a professional RUTS race video that is 2-3 minutes in length and we will use this video on the website to promte the RUTS racers this year. RACERS, you NEED to be at this race. We expect a FULL pit, so bring a friend, bring a family member. We will have lunch at pits (BBQ) and guest pitters are welcome, as always.
At the racers meeting, we will have pit sign ups, go over this years racers expectations and rules and talk about the new RUTS role in D37 as far as PRE-race prayers.
Its going to be a great year to be an active RUTS racers. I hope to see you there!
Scott Burnett
RUTS President

PS. RUTS Officers, former RUTS racers and non racing club members. Please consider attending this race. If a racers goes down and needs to be picked up off the course, we would prefer to send out a NON racing club member, so the racers can stay in pits and attend the RUTS Race meeting. We will have my rhino available for "chase / racer pickup" to whomever is there to help. We need your help to start this year off right! Please come and join us for the day. Sunday, Jan 9th.

I know many of you do P.U.S.H. but this was just too good and a was a very timely reminder to me—I had to e-share it! Love, John
A man was sleeping one night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light, and God appeared.
The Lord told the man he had work for him to do, and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin.
The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might...
So, this the man did, day after day. For many years he toiled from sunup to sundown, his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all his might!
Each night the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out, feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain.

Since the man was showing discouragement, the Adversary (Satan) decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into the man's weary mind. (He will do it every time!)
"You have been pushing against that rock for a long time and it hasn't moved." Thus, he gave the man the impression that the task was impossible and that he was a failure.
These thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man.
Satan said, "Why kill yourself over this? Just put in your time, giving just the minimum effort, and that will be good enough."
That's what the weary man planned to do, but decided to make it a matter of prayer and to take his troubled thoughts to the Lord.
"Lord," he said, "I have labored long and hard in Your Service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked.
Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half a millimeter. What is wrong? Why am I failing?"
The Lord responded compassionately, "My friend, when I asked you to serve Me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all of your strength, which you have done.
Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push.

And now you come to Me with your strength spent, thinking that you have failed. But, is that really so? Look at yourself.
Your arms are strong and muscled, your back shiny and brown; your hands are callused from constant pressure, your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much, and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. True, you haven't moved the rock.
But your calling was to be obedient and to push and to exercise your faith and trust in My wisdom.
That you have done. Now I, my friend, will move the rock.."
At times, when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what He wants, when actually what God wants
is just simple obedience and faith in Him.
By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains, but know that it is still God Who moves the mountains.
When everything seems to go wrong.................................Just P.U.S.H.
When the job gets you down...............................................Just P.U.S.H.
When people don't do as you think they should.................Just P.U.S.H.
When your money is "gone" and the bills are due..............Just P.U.S.H.
When people just don't understand you..............................Just P.U.S.H.

P = Pray
U = Until
S = Something
H = Happens
Pass this on to all your loved ones and friends who may need it, they may get it just in time."
Though no one can go back and make a **brand new start**, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending."

May God Bless You.

For some of you old timers like myself... just thought I would shake you up a bit. My wife and 4 sons actually went out to copper city road out of Barstow this last weekend!
My triplet boys go to school with Cris Crandalls kids and he has been twisting my arm to go out with them for some time. I actually rented a bike trailer and took out the old kdx and rmx ( rmx for sale ). My son James is big enough now to ride my bike so I'm looking for another cheap kdx. The triplets were able to do there 1st off road lessons with Cris and did very well for their 1st time out!
So who knows you guys might see the old guy out there again with some new young blood! God bless, hope to see you at the CHRISTmas party!

Rescue 3 Annual Training - BLS Class (Adv First Aid/CPR/AED) Dec 10th
-----------------------------------------------------------

Hey Everyone -

On Saturday December 10th Craig Nuss (DMC)and Retired La Habra Firefighter will be teaching a BLS (Basic Life Support)class to members of Rescue 3. We would also like to open the class up to District people who would like to have this training.

The training will include CPR and AED training along with some first aid. Craig will cover some of the most common injuries seen in the desert and give you a level of comfort when dealing with injuries either on the course or in the pits.

You will receive a BLS certificate to carry in your wallet which is valid for 2 years. This course normally runs at or around $100 per person. Craig is willing to train up to 20 people for the cost of $75 per person.

We will take people on a first come, first served basis. If you are free on the 10th of December, please send me a private message here on the District 37 message board and reserve your spot. The training will be part of Rescue 3's annual training weekend and will be held at Anderson Dry Lake by the kiosk probably starting at noon. It will last four hours.

**Clubs** If you have dedicated pit people, I highly recommend you have them take part in this course. This life-saving knowledge goes way beyond the desert. You never know when you may be in a situation to make a difference.

Feel free to ask me any questions regarding the course. The exact time is still to be determined.

Remember, space is limited so you have to reserve your spot early or you just may miss out.

As always,

Thanks for supporting Rescue 3

Hey Rutsters,

Not sure if anyone is interested but I have 3 passes for 1/2 Day Deep Sea Fishing trip that expires on the 21st of this month. I bought these hoping to take my boys but ran out of time. The vouchers I bought cover a 5 hour trip out of Newport. If you do not have your own reels you will need to rent them. Reel Rental and Bait is $20 per person which is still a pretty good deal. Let me know if interested and I can send you the vouchers but you will need to make the reservations.. Steve 951-326-4878

The wheel has normal scratches and scuffs from tire irons and riding. Otherwise it looks to be straight and in good shape. No noticeable dings, dents or flat spots. No missing spokes. Hub looks good and the wheel bearings seem to be good also! Has a paddle tire on it's in pretty good condition. $250 ask for your RUTS discount.

Some of you might remember Steves crash just above the rocks during the Men's Challenge Hill Climb. Unfortunately his XR650 came down on his right foot and broke 3 bones. The good news is that at first the doctors thought he might need surgery but now it's just the cast that he'll have for probably 10 weeks.
Please pray for Steve and his wife Jill at this time. She has not been feeling well for a while and was already working through all of that.

The Beaumont clan is gaining one more rider as it seems Ezra is just about old enough to cruise around with me this weekend at MotoOlypmics, but we need a helmet for him. Does anybody have a Youth Small helmet laying around that someone outgrew that we can borrow for the weekend or purchase for cheap? He has been climbing all over my 50 making Braap! noises and is ready and eager to ride. His head is a 19.5" circumference so I'm pretty sure a Youth Small would fit. I could pick up in the northern LA area this week or meet up on Soggy.

Thank You

RHR's race this year is on November 19/20. Since BLM is not allowing them to host their race Thanksgiving weekend because that's a blackout date, they took over Four Aces' date and kept it as an enduro. November 19th will be the family enduro for all members of the family.

They're looking for volunteers to work the race. Workers will receive one day's enduro work points.

They are looking for 5-10 members from each club to help with ANYTHING that has to do with the race. Let's step up and help them, especially if you are a racer or a racer's parent. You never know when you might need the help of RHR's financial assistance in case of a serious accident at a D-37 sanctioned event and your funds are depleted. This race is all about raising money for RHR so there will be funds available for racers.

You don't have to know anything about an enduro. There are lots of different positions open. Checks are fun and exciting. I've worked them before. Takes you five minutes to learn how.

Please get in touch with Robert Wranosky. Here's the info:

We all need to start signing up for helping out for the RHR Enduro. We are going to stage at Cougar Buttes. This is the plan. We are going to do 2 loops. There will be some common shared course between loops.

Loop #1 “The easy loop” about 35 miles. Loop #2 (2A & 2B) “The hard loop” will be about 50 miles, with a reset at about 35 miles (end of #2A) right at camp, ending the event for some riders (C riders and some A and B's). All other A and B riders get gas, then go on for about 15-20 more miles (#2B). 2B is the same as having a 3rd loop. It just saves us needing another start and finish crew.

The Family Enduro will be about 13 miles using part of the above courses. We already have a lot of miles with all the course markings figured out. So we will need to lay out only about 35-40 more miles to complete the courses.

RHR and Family enduro course layout weekend will be November 5th and 6th. We should be able to do all course work on Saturday the 5th. We are asking each club to round up 5-10 members to contribute to the RHR events. The more people that we have Saturday morning, the faster we can get it all marked and done. I will be staying until Monday the 7th to do mileage, speeds, and check location. We are not planning on doing any course work on November 6th.

PLEASE let me ASAP if you can be involved and what you want or are willing to do! If you are willing to just do general course work on race weekend or do any of the lead jobs below, please email me at rwranosky@trimarkusa.com or send me a private message. Please call me at 949-337-2459 with any questions if you’re not sure about something. It’s a lot better for me to answer questions on the phone.

Listed below are some of the key positions that we need to fill ASAP. Obviously we will need many more bodies for other positions than I have listed. Please get in touch with me ASAP so I can pencil you in somewhere. If you see "???" this means these key position spots are still open and we need YOU!

Please sign up and do as much as you can! I will update this post with people that fill the Key positions as soon as I can. We really want to make this the best event we can. So, PLEASE get on board!

I will also give them the area they need to lay out within. I will have this info for the Section Leaders on October 30. This is when we will be done with all ribbon and layout for the section of the course that we already have worked out. I will be there on that day to figure out the Section Leaders GPS start and stop points.

“General Course worker” ???
We need as many people to come out on November 5th to tie ribbon, pound stakes and arrows. You will be teamed up with Section Leaders. You will just follow and fill in course markings. Also need people to work on the event weekend. Remember there are 2 events that weekend.

“General Course worker” ????
We will need 20-30 people for the Saturday event (Family Enduro) and 40-50 people to work the Sunday event (RHR Enduro) on race weekend. If you can do both Great! If not, PLEASE do something. We need people to work Start /Finish lines, Road Crossings, Check crews, etc. Please let me know if you have experience running a check crew. If you have never worked on a check crew, no worries. I promise you will have learn a lot and have so much fun!

Please let me know when you are available to work. I really hope we can get most of you to work on both weekends. Layout /course marking (Saturday 5th) and work on race weekend (19th/20th).

Remember! CALL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS. Rob 949-337-2459.

Subject: Who's going to the GVL Club Ride?

Julie Angell

Hey everyone,

Just checking to see who is planning on attending the GVL Club weekend on Sept 17. There will be lots of different things to do, from green sticker dirt bike riding to hiking, fishing, boating, mountain biking, having a picnic at my cabin with everyone, to just enjoying the scenic, little lake and forest.

I'm ribboning the five-mike hiking trail tomorrow from my cabin. I'll also drive over to Crab Flats to see if it's difficult for large motorhomes/trailers to get in there on the 4 1/2 mile winding dirt road. Abe Baumann says it may be.

I'll find out where people who just show up for the day with their bikes in pickups or little trailers should stage near/in Crab Flats.

Jack Fuller is putting together a challenging, scenic route for the intermediate and expert riders. I'll have maps available for you and it can be ridden anytime Saturday/Sunday that you want. It takes Jack's son Sam 45 minutes to ride it, but he lives up there, so it should take everyone else well over two hours, depending on how many stops you make. Please no novices on this route. There will be step-ups; long, steep up and down hills; a water crossing over big rocks; and single track along the side of a hill. Stuff that intermediates and experts will enjoy and sometimes be challenged by.

Novices and kids can ride over to Big Pine Flats campground. There's a fun, circle trail that starts and ends there for novices and above. I wouldn't take beginner riders on it because it has some short, steep, winding hills on the trail. Fun, but you have to have good balance and throttle control.

Keep riding beyond Big Pine Flats and you may see the horses that sometimes stand along the fence next to a pretty meadow at a ranch up there. Eventually the trail turns to Street Legal Only and you'll need to turn around and come back. It's about a 22 mile round trip from Crab Flats. UTVs, quads, and 4WD vehicles can go on that route too, except for the circle trail.

There's lots to do up there, and the weather should be in the 70s or 80s. Might get chilly at night.

I didn't mention that GVL has a special area of the lake just for dogs. You can throw sticks in the water for them to fetch or just let them swim around. If you bring your dogs up to the cabin for the picnic, please firmly tie them up to a tree, because there are squirrels and chipmunks they'll want to chase. Sorry, they're not allowed in the cabin.

Please call me if you have questions. My number is on the last email that went out to you. I am planning on arriving at the cabin sometime Friday afternoon on September 16. I'll email my cell number to everyone. Verizon works up there but AT&T doesn't, except in some places.

Hope to see lots of you up there!

Please keep the Sam Fuller in your prayers today as he gets released from Arrowhead Regional Hospital, in Colton. Sam was airlifted from the invaders race after a freek over the bars launch took place 1 mile from pits at the end of the first lap. Sam was likely pinned, but doesnt remember anything about the accident. He his a small hole on the side of the ribboned trail while passing another rider and he flew about 100 feet. Jack was at his side very quickly after hearing about the accident on the radio and he was put in and ambulance and taken to camp rock road. He broke his "OTHER" collar bone and has a bruised rib but is otherwise ok. He was airlifted because the ambulance driver was concerned about his head injury. They could have made it to St. Marys hospital in the time it took the helo to arrive and transport him, but oh well.
Praise the Lord he will be ok to ride again aother day.
If you want to give him a check up call later this week, his number is (909) 337-8906

Danny is trail bossing the November club ride. the calendar has our November ride on Thanksgiving weekend, in hopes of coinciding with the Riders Helping Riders annual race in Johnson Valley. The BLM has done away with ALL races on ALL holiday weekends, so Riders Helping Riders (this year an Enduro) is on the weekend PRIOR to Thanksgiving. The 19th and 20th. Danny and I would like some feedback form those who are considering attending the RHR race or the November Club Ride.
Would you rather have the club ride to coincide with the RHR Enduro race in Johnson Valley...OR....would you rather have the Club Ride on Thanksgiving weekend (where potentially more people would or could attend?).
There are obvious advantages to either weekend, our goal would be for the largest turnout of RUTS members, so CHIME in RUTSTERS. What say YOU!?!

Judy and I have a very dear friend that we have known for twenty plus years. Him and his wife are dynamite christains. He has been through three bouts with rare forms of cancer, and has beat them with God's devine intervension. The last time the cancer had attatched it self to his heart, and with God guiding the surgons hand they were able to get all of the cancer, that was about two years ago. He has been going in for tyest over the past couple of monts, and they show that the cancer is back in two different spots on his heart. There is nothing left of the heart that can be removed, and the doctors gave him one year. We are asking for this entire club to please join us in hitting our knees in prayer , and please put hi, and his family on your prayer list at all of your churches. His name is Gilbert Lucero, and his wife is Lisa. We know that our God is more than capable of taking care of this issue for this family, and that is what is going to take a miracle for him to be healed.
Thank you all very much .

Morning all,
I spent all day yesterday riding the trails to see what is opened and was suprised by all of the downed trees. The folks cutting trees has been very busy. Most of the trails are open on the North side. The only train I found closed up there was the connector at the end of Jackass peak trail that takes you out to the jeep trail. On the south west side there are still a bunch of trails that are closed starting with Schaefer trail, Trout creek trail, and Beach trail up on the Bonita Mdw side. I rode rattlesnake down for 5-6 miles but the river gets to deep to cross much further down than that.
See ya all up there, Ken

Troy Meadows OVERFLOW Campground
From where the 14 meets the 395, go 12 miles and look for Kennedy Meadows sign and turn LEFT. You will climb for 9 miles into the pines. Continue to where the road slits at the general store and go LEFT. Go another 14 miles to TROY Meadows camp ground. Pass the developed troy CG on the right and go another 500 ft to a dirt road on the left. This is the road to the Troy Meadows overflow where we will be. Continue on the dirt road to the second left about 1/2 mile. We will be camped a little ways down on the RIGHT. If we are not at this exact spot, look for RUTS arrows to a nearby camp spot.

There is no Quad riding from this camp ground so leave the 4 wheelers at home, Sorry!! Some of the trails are closed due to fallen trees that are being cut away from the trails now, more trails should be open soon. There are at least 100 miles of rails open now. See you up there.

Does any one want to share a ride and split the gas with me? I can drive or ride along, either way. I have an F150 so I can bring two bikes. Let me know if you are interested. Call me at 949-294-9532

Rescue 3 brought a pair of prescription RayBan sunglasses to RUTS Registration that were found on the Powerline Road during our Meltdown event. I have them.
Julie or Scott, would you please post this information on the D37 website, and we'll have to get these glasses to the rightful owner at one of the D37 meetings.
I can bring them to the GM in July.

All the workers were super helpful (helping me get my bike over that stupid rock at check 3....) and friendly. Im really bummed to be missing the band and BBQ thats going on RIGHT NOW... Cool shirts too....Right on RUTS!! Great job yet again!!

Thank you again to the gentleman from RUTS that was passing out cold water to all of us at the finish.

Hats off to RUTS, even in the gnarliest rocky washes. the quads fit through, barely. Hard to believe, but it seemed someone even built little "rock ramps" on the approach to some of the bigger boulders we had to go over with one side or the other, not kidding. RUTS, we notice things like this . Great Band, and as usual RUTS "after race event" was awesome. THANKS, to all you RUTSTERS !

BEST WEEKEND OF RACING THIS YEAR! Weather was perfect, both race courses were fun, free food, prizes, brownies, what more could you asked for. This is what a District race is all about! Thanks RUTS, you guys put a lot of work end to this weekend and it showed.

The whole weekend was fantastic. Both courses were a blast; I liked the A course the best today. It was more technical than I was expecting. What a great weekend; I love me the Euro's.

Quality event by the RUTS, as usual.

Both days were beautiful . The total package RUTS puts together is awsume.

I had a FANTASTIC time this weekend! RUTS was my very first D37 race last year. I've tried to do all the races since then to now and I can honestly say that RUTS puts on one of the most fun, unique and awesome weekends of the year! Got to meet a lot of people this weekend too.
Thank you to Julie for the tray of brownies!! I didn't get the pit bike but I did win A LOT of very cool stuff. The raffle and live band is such an incredible touch to top off the weekend. This has been the highlight of my year so far, not just racing, but life in general! I had a good racing weekend too, got 1st in class both days. Liked course B a lot more than A. Had great starts both days. Today I nearly holeshot the entire novice line on my 125. Damn 450's just have more top end, especially on an uphill sandy start. Thanks again RUTS, you guys put on a great weekend. See you all next year!

Favorite RUTS course's to date! Vet race sat. felt really akward for some reason trying to get on my bike from the rear wheel straddle position. It was like slow motion getting on, got to the end of the bomb and realized my goggles were around my mouth guard on my helmet . luckily had clean air , slowed enough to put em on then fell into 5th position, had my pucker moment of the weekend on the first road crossing just after the start. Chased Ken Reber for a couple miles put a pass on when he took a corner wide, then caught another Vet hwt V33?, chased him for a bit then we both lost the ribbon on a right turn out of a wash, i found the course first and was able to take the position. 1st and 2nd overall were checking out, i was able to hold 3rd overall though . Loved course A minus the rough straight away to the finish.
Sunday I practiced my bike mount technique , and got a better start, fell in right behind Shultz and another Hwt Vet and the end of the bomb just tried to keep pace, then Dodson passed and a few miles later Liebelt passed. Held 5th overall for a lap then Hasting put the pass on me and so I just tried to stay on his rear wheel but dust on B course was insane and i started riding over my head just to keep pace. I backed off and held onto 6th overall Vet. The silt bed on B course was crazy, 5th gear pinned sitting on the rear fender floatin accross it was a blast. Loved every bit of B.

Thanks for bringing the Good News....Food good, Band Good, Message Good, God Is Good, all the time....

The BBQ and band were great. I loved the video this year; I was in it as was my husband Mark and son James!!! Awesome!!!

My hubby & I just started racing during the last half of 2010. The RUTS race was by far the best weeekend we've had to date. I loved course B on Saturday and thoroughly got my butt kicked on Sunday on course A. But dagnabit, I made it up RUTS hill - twice!! All the extras (band, raffle, kids race, bbq, welcome committee, brownies, slideshow) really made the weekend enjoyable and memorable!!

Great weekend with family and friends!
Still smiling!

Thanks RUTS for laying out two great courses...loved B on saturday @ 1200
watched a four ace execute a knarly endo and jump right up with his thumb in the air..unbelievable!.......always alot of good dudes on the 40+ line

Sunday was a blast! looking at the RUTS map I was expecting a whooped out fast course..great layout RUTS with a bit of everything.
My front end washed out and I landed pretty hard on a "big fluffy rock" before check 3 I think.. it was just hold on to the bars and finish from there on ...

Going over RUTS hill was alot of fun! never took the alternate but probably would have done a little better with the log jam on the hill my first time through.
Great guys on the hill trying to keep everyone flowing.
loved hearing all the cheering on the hill!
D37 peeps are pretty cool...Thanks for the Burger,Band and Brownies! All the course workers were awesome.Cant wait till next year! Kudos to all the hardworking RUTS and we're looking forward to next year's event!!

This was my first RUTS Meltdown and I had a great time, thanks for the bbq and fun events Saturday night.

Meltdown was AWESOME! Thank you RUTSTERS for making our 24th annual event such a great success.
We had 560 paid entries. This is around 40 more than 2010. I dont know of any major injuries, at least none that required a helocopter ride.
We have recieved many great reports about the event, I will include some in a separate post. Some of the more frequent comments are on the layout of our loops. They were very well liked and our loop captains both did a fantastic job. Our dual start was a success and we will likely continue that format, as the start team does such a great job year after year.
At our July general meeting, Monday July 11th, we will be reviewing Meltdown. Our goal will be to highlight some areas that we can do better on and some things that worked well and we will try to keep the same. We would LOVE your imput on how our BIG ONE, Meltdown 25, can be the best one to date!
Well done faithful servants of our Lord! You did it. Many seeds were planted and our club's repulation continues to be a good one among our district 37 friends. RUTS is known as putting on one of the best events of the year, if not THE best event of the year. AWESOME.

Friends,

My step-dad (Paul Heid) and I do our best to ride every weekend. This weekend we will be riding Cahuilla Cteek Mx park in Anza. This track is my favorite So-Cal track. Continous elevation changes, amazin thick and tacky dirt and no dangerous jumps. They also have an awesome vet track. We will be out there around 9am this saturday 6/18. We will be driving a lifted tan dodge 2500 with a big "Heid Construction" sticker on the rear window. I hope to see some of you out there.

Please call if you have any questions.

God Bless,

We are saddened to inform everyone who knew Phil's mom, Ethel, of her death on Wednesday, May 25th. She had not been well, but was holding her own, and it was quite a surprise to us. She, mercifully, passed away in her sleep. We had just celebrated her 75th birthday with her the week before.

For anyone who might wish/be able to come to her memorial service, it is being held on Friday, June 10th at 11 a.m. at Pomona First Baptist Church,586 N. Main St., Pomona (cross streets Holt & Garey Ave.

Phil wanted to remind everyone that she was known as "Pit Mom" in R.U.T.S. in the mid-80's and 90's...

We miss her already. Appreciate and thanks for prayers.

For CLUB members:

1) Arrive as early as possible. We have alot of course marking, direction arrows, ribbon and stakes to put up this Friday. We need as many people there Friday morning as possible. Come to sign ups as soon as your able…. to find what is left that needs to be done.

2) Do NOT ride the course when you arrive, unless you are putting up ribbon, bunting or pounding stakes. Please. The course captains have requested that “play riders” stay off the course on Friday. Who has time to play ride on Friday anyway?

3) Our MEETING will be from 9-10pm on Friday at signups. We will shuffle check workers around if needed, go over some last minute items and hand out the supplies needed to make the race happen! Come to sign ups anytime after 8pm with your chair, meeting will start PROMPTLY at 9pm and go 1 hour. Wear a RUTS shirt if you have one, as we will take a group photo.

4) SUPPLIES NEEDED. If you have a folding table, ice chest or extra E-Z up. Please put your LAST name on it somewhere and bring it to the BBQ area on Friday when you arrive. We need as many as possible for Saturday afternoon / evening activities.

5) Raffle Prizes. We are still in need of some raffle prizes. Anything NEW you can get from your local motorcycle dealer will be accepted. Donated or purchased, product or gift certificates, large or small. Bring them tot he stage area anytime on Friday or Saturday.

6) PEOPLE NEEDED. On Friday we need some volunteers to man the new “Welcome Station”. We will have an E-Z up, table and chairs set up at the entrance to the camp area off Granite Road, as you drive into camp for our racers. As the racers arrive on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, they will be stopped and greeted by a smiling RUTS member who will hand them riders instructions, course maps, a tract and race entry sign in sheets. They will also direct first timers to sign ups and answer questions. The Gift of Hospitality and a love for our D-37 racers is a MUST for these volunteers. Lori Getzlaff is starting off at 3pm, and will need a helper or two and a relief crew at dinner time. This will be a fun task for the wives of those racers who are out on the course pounding stakes and tying ribbon on Friday.

7) Saturday afternoon from 3-4pm, we need all club members NOT at a check point to report to the kids race to help Rocky Warbrick with the kids races. At 5-7pm, we need all club members to check in with Brian Novak at the BBQ to see if they need help. If you can serve food for 30 minutes or an hour that would be great.

Sunday Chapel is at the stage at 7am, if your around camp at that time. Free coffee and doughnuts! Were looking for a worship leader / guitar player…anybody? D. Alabran will be leading our morning service.

9) Last but not least. Pray. Pray. Pray. Pray for good weather, no wind, safe riding conditions, pray for the health and energy of our club and the attending racers. Pray for hearts to be opened to conversations, silent witnessing and a Saturday evening specially designed to witness to our D37 race friends.

Brothers and sisters in RUTS,
Monica and I lost her dad last Saturday, 28 May 2011. He had COPD and emphysema and had a pretty rough time since 2004. He was at peace and was a really strong Christian. He was surrounded by his family and under hospice care. Please keep Monica, her mom, Beth, her sister Micki and our family in your prayers in the coming weeks. Jack was my father in every way. I knew him since I was 5yrs old.

Gods Rest and for the repose of his soul, may light perpetual shine upon him. Amen.

Ride Report May 2011 “Work Weekend”

Thursday saw some Moore’s (“Smores”?) , The Matson Clan, Sonny and others arrive to a rapidly filling camp spot at the buttes. Holiday Weekend crowds were expected but never really caused any problems.

That can’t be said for the WIND! Steady and growing Thursday Friday, and Saturday, then “NUTTY” Saturday night and into Sunday, I estimate sustained 35-40 mph (Sunday) with gusts well above that. Marty reported that his helmet BLEW out of the back of his truck. Most reported restless sleep as their campers bounced in the wind.awnings and ez ups were nowhere to be seen.

Now for the GOOD.

Despite the wind there were approximately 20 hearty RUTSters young and old ribboning the 2 signature “Dave K” courses. THANK YOU ALL WHO HELPED!! I would say that 90% of the ribboning was done, (thought some will be undone by race weekend) and more than half of the stakes if not all.

“Chicken, asada and ribs, Oh my!”

The potluck BBQ was fantastic, we savored some tasty meat and sides too. The Krenik’s trailer provided plenty of rotating seating for dinner and fellowship. Many thanks to Ann Marie for letting us escape the wind!

Due to the wind and cold I did not have the opportunity to lead devotions but if you are interested my notes are on the website. http://www.ruts.org/2011/ride-reports/club-ride-work-weekend-report/

I pray this would lead you into study and meditation with the goal of intentionally seeking opportunities to share the Good News!

Here is what I just posted on the D37 message board.

RUTS..SNEAK PEAK....
So..RUTS is known for its "funky starts". This year is no different. I cant share the details, but I can tell you that our DUAL start format, will once again have both A and B starting from the same location. MAPS will once again be available at sign ups. For you honest racers, dont worry ....our MAPS dont give away any cheater hints, just enough to keep everybody on course and safe!

Course B (the further away course) is more technical than it has ever been. With 11miles of terrain, your gonna wonder where this technical stuff came from! This loops has some never before seen sections and is receiving rave reviews from the RUTS core!~

Course A (the Buttes loops) is just under 10 miles and has some super fun technical sections that will have you up on your pegs for sure. There no sitting down on this loop. With the RUTS hill check point for some spectator action, two great valley runs and some sweet buttes tecnical lines you will love the A loop for sure.

In addition to the loops, BOTH GREAT, we have a fantastic NEW band, the highlight video, kids race and BBQ all ready to go. RUTS is praying for a great weekend and we are looking forward to getting our D37 family together for the best Meltdown yet!

See you there,
ScottyB

Wow that was a blast! You all missed a great time. We had a few RUTS members at the race with a couple guest pitters. One broke a chain and ended up hitchin a ride back in from another club. Thanks George for monitoring the radio and taking the time to go out after Andy.
I was sure that we were going to race in the rain but God spared us and it turned out to be perfect riding weather.
45 mile first loop was easy, actually both were easy using just the Gorman park for the race. The forest didn't get used this year. 40 miles for the second loop with tons of turns and a crazy river bottom section that was full of rocks that just seemed to go on forever.
It was nice to do a race in a modified enduro format without much dust and few other riders to battle with on the trails. The timed sections were a blast because you could really push yourself without having to worry about other riders. The track freaked me out since I am not a motocross rider but I jumped a little anyway. I did enjoy the 3rd and 4th gear jumps on the trails though, nice and long without to much air. Air under my wheels usually means that I am in the air waiting to hit the ground. Seriously after every jump I say a tiny paryer. Jump, land, "thank you God", jump, land "thank you God"...
This is the first time I have raced one of these "qualifiers" and have no idea how I did. Don't really care either it was that fun.

God bless. See ya all at the meltdown.
Ken

We had a great time at the Vikings race today (dispite the 40 mph winds). Special thanks to the people that helped pit (too many to name). There were 8 racers; Dave Klein, Brad Pace, Don Rager, Shane (Don's friend), Matt Krenik, Rodney, guest pitter (name?), & Bill. All racers finished with the exception of Brad Pace who had a nasty get-off on the bomb crossing a SCORE road. We think he's okay. Brad or Richard can you reply with an update? Excellent day all in all. Thanks again pit help, you really make it happen.
