Kiersten,

I'm sure you are a much better teacher than you feel like you are right now. Trust me, it gets easier.

Ideas to get participation:
1) Learn their names and call on them. And if they give you a short answer, ask them to elaborate, or call on another student and ask that student to add to or defend what the other person said.
2) Write in a notebook during the class discussion. You can be doodling or writing gibberish, but for all they know you're grading them explicitly.
3) Who says group work is just for high school? Break them up into groups and make them present. Make it a project or a test grade or something.

And above all, be confident. You CAN do this, and you can do it VERY WELL. Draw on your acting experience and at least act like you're confident, and you will feel confident. It's hard at first, but every day you get better at it. And just remember that you have friends rooting for you.
