Barbara, are you aware of how much unemployment benefit is? Do you think it covers accomodation, food, bills and clothing costs? The harsh fact of it is that Andy, and others in his situation, are in fact heavily subsidised by the JA.

Whilst I was in the JA I had a job in community but also in my latter days, had a better paid job outside of the community. Similar to Andy, I gave all of my income to the common purse - whether £30 or £300 a week. All is all - I had no grudge subsidising others as that was part of what I had signed up to.

The JA are not alone in this approach - other christian organisations who ofer hostels etc are very similar.

Read what I wrote again, Andy was clearly very troubled when he came to the JA. They welcomed him when others would not and welcomed him back despite his theft from them. I'm at a loss to inderstand how much more they could have helped.

Perhaps you have a spare room for him?
