Firstly, I don't like Ian's suggestion of selectively "ignoring" the rule. I think this leads to a lot of resentment by those who abide by the rules... if the rule does not work, surely it would be better to change it.

that would be nice, but the perennial discussion of how to determine the "same standard" has not been solved... though I do think there are better methods than A/BCD

At least all the A-teams from the "big" unis will be good at either ballroom or latin. So they will be in the right place in one of the two events. If you're from a uni where only 3 couples travel to a competition you might be low intermediate in *both* disciplines. In the end, the only solution is not to enter the team-match which would be a terrible thing...

Also, being from a *big* uni myself, I'm at least as inept in latin as you, Alice. But really, I don't care if i go out 1st round in a competition. Someone has to. I'll be in my element in the ballroom, so I'm quite happy being cannon-fodder in the latin... (while trying to improve at the same time...)
