Let's just take a step back to consider why the Beg/Int/Adv model was adopted by IVDA a few years ago. The previous A&Ex/BCD model forced couples to dance at a particular level according to the standard of other members of their team. Hence Impoxbridge invariably filled the final of BCD with couples who in many cases could have reached the semi or final of A&Ex had they been allowed to compete. Similarly, the (example) single Aberystwyth couple never stood a chance of getting even a single mark in A&Ex where they might have made a round in BCD.

The Beg/Int/Adv model allows couples to choose to compete against couples of a similar standard rather than forcing unequal competition as described above. However, it does require couples and team captains to be reasonable and fair at entering a sensible level. There will always inevitably be crossover - however I would expect to see at least Impoxbridge B and maybe some C competing at Advanced level and A teams from smaller universities dancing down.

My philosophy was always that a win over couples with far less experience was a hollow victory and making a quality final but not winning was more satisfying.

* declaration of conflict of interest: I designed the beg/int/adv model *
