The Tower Ballroom in Birmingham is too small for IVDA. I was there last weekend. There is a lot of peripheral space (and they do nice big portions of chips) but the dance floor is too small, they had to split the semi's into two heats. It's also a silly shape as the stage area juts out into it so effectively reducing the space further.

The Crystal Palace is a nice venue, probably quite expensive though, plenty of seats, good parking and extensive changing areas. The organisers spent a lot on decoration to give it atmosphere (all the ceiling drapes and stuff) otherwise it's just a sports hall.

Saying that, sports halls tend to be cheaper if they are available and don't mind dance shoes. What they lack in atmosphere is more than made up for by the enthusiasm of the competitors.

And there's always Blackpool!!
