    Dear Southern Region Colleague,

    The financial crisis at CLRG is very serious. It is very real.

    I urge you to vote to accept the new registration fee and the new entry fees. CLRG needs income now. It needs the promise of income in the future to secure financing to cover the period of operational reform. These increases are an investment in a CLRG better prepared to serve you in the future.

    The effort to reform CLRG continues. Please remember changes already accomplished:

    A change in leadership.
    Independent CLRG organizational study.
    Registrant voting for All Ireland and Worlds adjudicators.
    Recruiting Professional Management for CLRG.
    Improved Office management and efficiency.
    Continued work on other projects to improve CLRG.

    Change is slow because it is hard. However, the Members who are persistently promoting the necessary changes have been effective. They are dedicated to improving CLRG.

    Please note that there is a countermotion in opposition to raising the registration fees. By custom and practice in CLRG, the countermotion will be voted on first. If the countermotion passes, the original motion will not be voted on, it is considered defeated by the countermotion. The countermotion leaves the CLRG Registration Fees the same as they were last year. It assesses every registrant a one-time amount of money to pay for:

    1.a €348,334 ($376,894) the 2023 Gibney Communications public relations expenses.
    1.b. 2024 Gibney expenses unknown. Gibney is working on a project pricing basis.
    2. €156,992 ($169,759) the cost of the SIA Organizational Review
    3. Managing Director, Communications and Marketing Director costs unknown as
    of yet.

    On April 15 there were 2,078 Registrants. The known onetime assessment in the
    countermotion is approximately $250 at today’s currency exchange rate, without other currency-related fees. The motion is unclear as to 2024 expenses and which of the MD and COMS expenses would be assessed to Registrants.

    But, you will stay with CLRG and pay the levies and fees, and whine about it constantly. The “members” don’t care about you and the minions.

    Thank you to all who attended the informational meetings on June 2 and June 9. Your input and engagement is much appreciated by all delegates representing North America at CLRG.

    One of my DD quit ID back before SRO (yes, she took a stand over the “issue”. )

    She has taken up ballroom dance. I thought: Great! No wig, No $1500 dress.

    Well…. Lessons are much cheaper.

    Then comes competition time. Mock-competition, equivalent to a school feis, not even a real feis. $2200 in total entry fees, and she’s on the low end being new. Nationals, they tell me can run $20k in fees, for 1 dancer!

    We won’t be going to nationals.

    On behalf of the OFA Friendship Feis, we warmly invite all of you to join us for our 9th annual feis in St. Louis, MO July 27th-28th.

    This year, we're taking our adult comps to the next level! We'll be holding an Adult Extravaganza on Saturday evening, 7/27, where we run all adult grade level and team competitions, followed by an adult dancer get-together/social. On Sunday, 7/28, we'll offer adult grades again, plus all adult championship comps.

    Our feis is a double-feis weekend. On Saturday day, our BFFs at the Clarkson School of Irish Dance are hosting the An Samhra Feis at the same venue. They're also offering grade exams on Friday, 7/26 at their studio a few miles from the hotel. If desired, you can hit grade exams, two full feiseanna, second chance comps for adult grade levels and Beg 2-PC for non-adult dancers, plus a chance to meet up and hang out with other members of the adult Irish dance community!

    The feis is being held at the St. Louis Hilton-Frontenac, convenient to Lambert Airport, and located right off I-64. It has a beautiful outdoor pool, fitness center and sauna, is located across the street from a luxury shopping mall, a boutique grocery store, several delicious restaurants, and of course, a Starbucks!. The hotel feis rate is $159, and can be booked by calling 314-993-1100 with code IRD24.

    Our theme is Friendship! We'll have friendship bracelets, an opportunity to give and receive messages of good luck and encouragement, and we're sure you'll head home with new friends!     From the Irish Independent's Ellen Coyne:
    The investigation into alleged widespread cheating in Irish dancing has been completely abandoned.
    An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG) this evening made the shock announcement that it was “no longer in a position” to pursue disciplinary action against those accused of cheating.
    But almost two years on, only a handful of those accused of cheating have faced independent disciplinary action. It is understood that more than 30 dance teachers and judges were still to face hearings over the alleged cheating.

    In a letter to members last night, CLRG chairperson Sandra Connick said: “It is with great regret that I must now inform you that CLRG is no longer in a position to pursue further disciplinary action against those individuals these individuals are now being contacted by our legal team.
