Just found out our school lost an older Open dancer and I don't know if I should just chalk it up ton"personal reasons" or worry that its the sign if a bigger issue? • transportation between hotels -- sr dancer, 12:47:08 11/23/14 Sun
Has Os been at the Rosen before? What do you do for transportation between the two hotels? The lady on the phone said its like a 5 minute walk, but looking at google maps it looks much farther than that. Will there be taxis or shuttles available? Could be a mess if everyone is trying to call a taxi last minute...?

  • Who goes to Oireachtas? -- Curious, 06:07:16 11/22/14 Sat
My DD is not there yet but has been interested. What are your school's "rules" about who can go for solos? Her school will take only Prelim and Open Champs (our Prelims need 2 PW wins in all 4 dances) but in the past has taken PW if the only wins they still need are in dances they won't do at Os. My niece's school will only take PW dancers up to U14. Is there a hard and fast rule? I know the youngest groups are teacher discretion.

We've been at this (feising) for a mere 3 years, but it always amazes me how the feis families pour long, long, volunteer hours into providing an opportunity for these dancers to hone their skills. It can't be easy, and with the SR having fewer feis than other regions, each one is important! This is one of the few back to back feisanna we can attend..we've never missed it and look forward to next year! Great job! It's a great opportunity for our dancers to be evaluated by this many judges who also put in long, long hours to promote Irish dance. Thanks for all the tips for these dancers!

  • dance results that are obviously "fixed" for the home team bring ill repute to Irish dance. -- !, 08:03:45 11/16/14 Sun
It is time to say that when daughter of a dance teacher dances poorly on stage and shouldn't even recall, then wins an open comp that things have gone too far. It is an insult to everyone's integrity. Higher ranked world qualifiers danced well and placed behind a clearly struggling dancer. Would like to know if it is judging or tabulation. It is time for CLRG or IDTANA to clean up this sport.

  • Need a break from "O" chatter?! Possible relocation to Chapel Hill, ID school help needed. -- Thank you!, 07:41:11 11/11/14 Tue
Hi - DH is considering a job in Chapel Hill and we are in the process of weighing the pros and cons, one of which is being able to transition the children's activities so their lives are not completely turned upside down. Fortunately it looks like there are several ID options in the RTP area, but I am not really sure how to figure out which one would be the best fit for our PC and PW dancers. If anyone would be willing to give me their thoughts, we would be appreciative. I am not looking to instigate a public debate on the schools in the area, thus I've left my email in the link above to receive your comments privately.
We will of course also ask our TC for her opinion, however a few weeks before Oireachtas isn't the best time to do so, and besides, parent opinions are also valuable when you're considering moving to an entirely new region!

Looking at a possible move to Northern VA/ DC area from California for husband's work. DD is new to prelim and we don't know much about dance schools in other regions. We will of course talk with her current TC but would like to have some schools to look into to start our search. A quick look on google brought up Boyle, O'Neill James, and Maple, and I was wondering if there were any others in the area that you would recommend looking at. Thanks so much.
