  • suggestions for dressmaker? -- --, 19:28:25 07/30/15 Thu
Desperately need a dress made asap, in the past we have used Doire, Taylor and Eire but all seem to be booked until after Oireachtas. Any suggestions for a dressmaker who isn't completely booked? (I understand with Oireachtas coming up that it will be hard to find one, but any suggestions would be appreciated!)

  • Traffic on way to Atlantic City feis -- IDMom, 12:34:04 07/30/15 Thu
Wondering what traffic is like heading to Atlantic City on Saturday morning. This is my dancer's first year in champs so we've always driven up Sunday. Is there a lot of beach traffic to account for early on Saturday? Is traffic an issue Friday night as well? Not sure when to do our travelling.

    https://www.usedsolodresses.com/dress/stunning-champ-celtic-solo-2494.html

This stunning red, white, black, and gold dress was made by Celtic Solo in late 2014 and was worn by a Champion dancer at the regional, national, and world level. Stored in a smoke and pet-free home and worn only a handful of times, this dress is in PRISTINE condition! It features a black velvet bodice with gold embroidery, white satin sleeves with red embroidery, a white tulle skirt, and gold and red stones throughout. Since bought, thousands of extra Swarovski crystals have been added and we have received countless compliments. Its breathtaking stage presence makes this dress perfect for a dancer of all levels and will definitely get you noticed! It comes with a cape, number clip, gold bundies, and spare crystals as well as plenty of let out
    room all over.

Please check out the usedsolodresses link above for more info! We need to sell this dress asap for our daughter to get a new one for the Oireachtas as she has outgrown this one.

  • To all those with complaints about any feis: -- Long time feissana attendes, 07:47:05 07/27/15 Mon
Could you please stop to think for a moment. You have no idea about the behind-the-scenes of any feis.

Do you seriously think a feis would intentionally try it’s best to make the worst possible day for you?

How about this—volunteers are there doing their best.
    Sometimes volunteers don’t show up.
Sometimes the wrong trophies are sent by the manufacturer.
Sometimes the competition schedule that had hours of thought put into it, doesn’t flow the way it was set out to.
Sometimes adjudicators decide to take breaks—they are human too!

    The floors seem slippery?
Maybe the dancer hasn’t wiped the carpet fibers off her shoes.
Maybe the dancer doesn’t have the strength or control for her steps that day.
Maybe it was just a fluke the dancer fell.
Maybe there was a problem with the stage. Bring to the attention of the volunteer stage manager to address.

If you have a suggestion for the feis, contact the feis directly. You who come here to complain about sizes of trophies, the flow of the schedule, or any other problem at a feis--never once, at the hundreds of feisanna I have attended—would I think that a feis had it’s mission to give awards to competitors that seemed paltry or would cause complaint; that a feis would intentionally create a schedule that was going to make the most people sit around all day; that a feis had perfect volunteers who knew how to solve every problem before it even arose.

For every feis attendee, you will have that many opinions on how a feis should be run—you can’t please everyone all the time.

Remember please, at any feis you attend, the volunteers there are doing their very best to provide the dancers an opportunity to compete for an adjudicator doing something they love.

May all your future feissana run smoothly. I am sure I will continue to attend feissana that have bumps and glitches--and I will be thankful to the organizations, dance schools and volunteers who work hard to provide my dancers the opportunity to dance.

Don't have a stage doing specials if the stage managers are completely inflexible about switching orders. Comps ran against other comps and stage monitors refused to make good use of the stage.
Awards - Prelim/ Open trophies were pathetic. I said it. Sorry, I agree it is not about the trophies, but the awards for champs are disgraceful. It is 2015, step up.

  • Stage 7 Nations C ap -- Julie Kelly (Frustrated), 14:13:43 07/26/15 Sun
Today, at Nations Cap, Stage 7 was horrible. I don't know how many dancers slipped and/or fell before they finally did something about it. This all occurred after lunch and was absolutely unacceptable. After eight girls slipped or fell, one girl fell and broke her wrist. That was when they finally came in a fixed the stage. So very frustrating. From the audience vantage point, one could see raises in the tarp in many places. How fair is it to mark a dancer off when it is the condition of the stage? Yet that is what happened to several girls. Notes from judges included their need to recover quicker. They should not have had to recover! They didn't cause this.

The Southern Tier Feis is right around the corner, Aug. 15 in Binghamton, NY. Along with the usual fun competition, great judges and wonderful musicians, we have lots of nice extras:

    - Grade Exams on Friday night, Aug. 14.

    At the venue, there is:
    - Air conditioning – it’s an ice center for heaven’s sake – with stadium seating and wooden stages a few inches off the floor. (no ice, though)
    - Trophies for all grades- including beginners!
    - Sashes for top 3 placements – Open AND Prelim!
    - Easy in and out - with a cap of 700, the feis goes quickly and is almost always DONE BY 3 P.M.

    The neighborhood offers:
    - An EASY location at a community college, off I-81, for quick navigation- and convenient parking.
    - Several hotels nearby (Fairfield Inn, Econolodge, Comfort Inn, Motel 6, Howard Johnson) Check the Comfort Inn for the feis rate.
    - A strip of eateries (including STARBUCKS) outside the campus entrance, even a movie theater complex across the street for non-feis goers.

Sign up on www.feisworx.com by July 31 to avoid the late fee.

Second, does anyone know where I should check for the syllabus and registration? I checked the sites I use most frequently (feisworx, feisweb, and efeis) but couldn't find any info. Dancers around the world, we Need your help!

CLRG has come up with this rule in their last Meeting in March!
The official rule as handed down from CLRG is as stated: "Female adult dancers participating in competitions entitled 'adult competition' and/or 'adult grade competition' (both solo and team) are required to wear tights of a denier not less than 70."

Back in 2008 the silly tight rule was put down with the help of 690 signatures, now they came up with it again. We've now currently reached 722 signatures to this day with your help - we appreciate every single signatue, thank you so much for your support!!! Let's try to break the 1000 line until the next RTME meeting in November and present the petition together with an accompanying letter. Let's not give up!!! Spread the word and discuss the matter with your fellow dancers - in the end the rule would affect every CLRG dancer all over the world!!!

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION AND HELP US "OLD" DANCERS!!!

  • Contacting Head For The World -- SRMommy, 17:44:49 07/13/15 Mon
I've loved the custom headbands Jeanne has done in the past for my DD.
We have a new dress and once again need a headband. I've sent emails 2 weeks ago to both email addresses on her website, but haven't heard back yet. I realize she could be on a much-deserved vacation, but can someone let me know if there is perhaps a better/different way to reach her?
    Thank you!

My daughter (u11) is attending Camp CRC on the 19th. She does not know any other campers. Any other girls on this board attending that week? Thanks
