"...but I'm not so sure a cultural norm of women lower than Men EVER existed on a societal level in the United States."
ummmm, except for the parts where they couldn't hold property, vote, go to colleges (even the private ones, even though they're not mandated by the government, we're talking culture here...) Don't, please don't tell me you actually believe what you wrote there. That's like saying you don't believe any elected officials in our history were corrupt.

And another thing, who *on earth* have you been talking to about the feminist movement?!?! Obviously not someone who is good at the verbal reparte game. Or maybe someone who lacks the monumental confidence to challenge the status quo, or maybe someone whose dog was hit by a car that morning, I couldn't say. Or maybe, just maybe, it was someone who hasn't had the time or opportunity to flesh out and articulate something she, deep down, knows is true?

RE: society based on male thinking patterns, you probably don't want to get me started, ;-) I mean, I am charming and wonderful and all, but my recommendation to you is to not get me started. But if you actually do, (want to open that can of worms) it would be better to talk about it in person. Why don't you come visit your pal Thayer in Seattle, and we'll have ourselves a lively and spirited discussion.
