I haven't read any of the other replys yet but have you tried a sleeping bag? They're like big fleecy dressing gowns which are all covered over at the bottom. You can get really fluffy thick ones too. I used to put Orli in mittens last winter too (it's summer here in Aus now, maybe you could fly south for the winter, :) )but maybe now that our babies are older they would manage to pull mittens off?
