Nick returned to the fourth floor only to find Sully, Shane, Val, and Sunny all huddled in deep discussion. His heart sank.

"What?" Nick rushed toward them. "What happened? Is she okay?"

Sully broke from the group immediately to reassure him. "She's fine. Heartbeat's even a little stronger," he smiled.

Nick breathed a sigh of relief but couldn't conceal his frown. "You promised me you'd stay with her til I got back…that you wouldn't leave her alone…" he chastised Sully.

"I didn't leave her alone," Sully tried not to take offense. "I promised I wouldn't…"

Nick relaxed just a fraction. "I just don't want her waking up to some nurse she doesn't even know."

Sully admired Nick's positive attitude but, truthfully, he considered the chances of Randy waking this evening extremely slim. Still, he thought Nick would appreciate hearing Randy was with a friend so he added, "I left her with Rob…"

Shane liked Sully. He really did. The guy was a good doctor. Seemed to enjoy living in Studs. Seemd to enjoy living - period. So, why he'd go and do a stupid thing like tell Nick that Randy was with the man who loaned her the car she almost died in, was something Shane couldn't take the time to fathom. Instead - since he was fairly certain it was in his job description - Shane stepped between Nick and Sully and hoped for the best.

Nick's mouth dropped open and his eyes glistened like daggers. "Rob?! Are you out of your **&**&* mind!!!!"

"Nick…please…" Sunny interceded emotionally. "Rob feels awful…devastated…just give him a chance!"

"A chance?" Nick spit back her words. "That's all Randy has now is a chance - thanks to my good friend, Rob!"

"Go get him out of there, Doc, NOW!" Nick ordered, pointing towards Randy's room. "Or I swear I'll kill him!" he vowed, turning an alarming shade of purple.

Unable to dismiss her years of police training, Val began to wonder silently if she should begin taking note of all the people in Studs who were threatening to kill each other this evening…

Even more unsettling was how deeply Val empathized with Nick's feelings towards Rob. More than anyone, Val knew what it was like to blame someone wrongly, to hold them responsible for actions over which they had no control. She could see the destructive rage in Nick's eyes. It mirrored her own before tonight. Oh yes, Nick was headed on a road Val had traveled and she didn't envy him the trip.

Wouldn't it be ironic, Val mused, if she turned out to be the one person who could help Nick through this? Maybe, they might have more in common than either had thought…

Sully didn't wait to be asked twice. Swiftly, he headed toward Randy's room with Nick hot on his trail.

Shane was about to follow in pursuit when Andy emerged from the elevator, beckoning him over…
