Subject: I'm new. Please help Prednisone hallucinations, confusion

My dad (74 yrs) was put on prednisone for about the last 5 days (10mgs, 2x a day). They put him on it because he had gotten extremely weak and lost his appetite and had been losing lots of weight. They are not sure what is wrong with him. It may be either Valley Fever or an autoimmune disease.

Anyway, yesterday he started having hallucinations and confusion. He would stand at the light switch for long periods of time because he could not decide whether to turn it on or off, he keeps getting stuck in the bathroom, bedroom, etc. because he doesn't know if he should open the door or close it, he is seeing bugs everywhere (that aren't there), he got up at 3am and started painting the kitchen in one spot over and over. The strange thing is he remembers it all in great detail and knows it's crazy, but can't stop.
It scared my mom and dad both and they called the doc this morning thinking he should go to the hospital, but the doc didn't think that was necessary. The doc changed his prescription to 5mgs 2x a day and also put him on Seroquel 25mgs which he told my parents was a sleeping med, but from what I'm reading is a antiphycotic drug (whose side effects include confusion, depression,....)???

I am very worried about my parents. Has anyone else experienced the hallucination,... stuff before? Any ideas on how long it would take to get out of his system? Can they become violent on prednisone? Should he get off this stuff?

My parents moved to Arizona in Oct. My dad has basically had perfect health prior. Has never been to a doc in many years except for a knee replacement 10 yrs. ago. He has always worked physically very hard (farmer blood:). Two weeks after moving to AZ he got sick and we have now been battling this UNKNOWN foe now for over 3 months now. I was there a few weeks ago and he could barely walk across a room and had to talk in short whispered breaths because he was so tired. They hospitalized him and ran all kinds of tests when I was there, but still no answers. Now that he's on the prednisone, he is much stronger and has an appetite again, but the mental problems are really scareing me and so is the info on this sight. Any help would be appreciated!
