Karen,

When I was first on steroids (solu-medrol in the hosptial for 12 days and about a month of prednisone after that for "asthma" issues) I lost a TON of weight. The docs attributed my weight loss to muscle wasting from the prednisone. It is more typical to GAIN weight on steroids (fluid really) and have a LARGE appetite.

Since you are having the opposite effect...are you sure there is not a GI motility issue going on? I ask only because I was diagnosed with having slow gut motility after losing a lot of weighta few years ago while being nauseas and having no appetite/eary satiety. It was diagnosed by doing a gastric emptying study. This illness can be caused by an inflammatory disease (autoimmune/inflammatory effecting the vegas nerve in my case). There are medications that are helpful in treatment (reglan if you can take it, erythromyacin or domperidone if you can't) and MANY anti-nausea meds (zofran/kytril/marinol are the best I have found).

You may want to look into National Jewish Hospital in Denver, Colorado for new treatments for your lung/small airway disease...I hear they are the best in the country and I know they do lots of studies for new treatments of funky illnesses :)

Please feel free to email or IM me anytime on here or privately!

Ivy
