Karen,

Yes, heart racing is a side effect of weaning down. It can also be from dehydration, if you are not eating/drinking enough. I know all about Imuran, I am on it's twin, 6-mp. I am on 50 mg of 6-mp, and it helps me lower the prednisone wtihout flaring up my symptoms. I don't think stopping the Imuran would cause withdrawal symptoms itself...but stopping it might make the prednisone withdrawals worse. I do know that the meds are supposed to stay in the body for 6 months once you stop them.

I understand you wanting to take a more natural route...these drugs are literally poison and have SO many of their own side effects that it is good to stay on them for the shortest amount of time possible...but some times they are life saving. Please talk with your regular doctor about ANY new supplements you want to start taking, and the fact that you stopped your med. PLEASE be VERY careful with your steroid...stopping it cold turkey or even weaning down too quickly can cause your body to go into adrenal crisis, which can be fatal. Once you decide to go below the "normal" 7.5 mg of pred (whatever that may be in medrol), have an AM cortisol level checked, and an ACTH. That will check to see how your adrenal glands are picking up. You may need a replacement dose for a while until your body does not need the extra help anymore.

Ivy
