Leave it to me to be different again. the mega doses of steroids I had to take so i could breathe really screwed my immune system. I dealt with the thrush and regular infections then moved on to the big time. I got 3 different infectios in my lung: aspergillis(mold), MRSA, and entrobacter. I almost died from my cure; not my asthma. I lost half a lung part of 2 vertabrae, and a disc in my back. I broke my arm last year and instead of the bone healing it dissolved(thank you, prednisone). A month after reconstruction I got an infection in the incision from the normal flora on your skin. I have been forbidden by my drs. to even get a cold because it would flare my asthma. I can't take anymore oral or IV steroids because of the permanent damage they've done. One day I'll be faced with the decision of not breathing or taking my chances on the next lost body part from steroids. My case is unusual. Most people don't have all this happen to them. My drs tell me 1)I'm weird, unique, and thank God, one of a kind. 2) I am a living, walking miracle. I'm telling you this to remind you that steroids are not always the answer for all cases(no matter what the drs say)They can bring big trouble with them for all the good they do. Consider all your options when making any decision about steroids.
