Tyrone. I wonder what your clever brain thinks of Germaine Greer. Mine and Sarah's views contrast slightly.
------------------------------------------------------------
I (sarah) have a mixed opinion on Dr. Greer. I have read The Whole Woman and The Female Eunuch and believe that they have added to my gender consciousness. In theoretical terms I believe that she has something worthwhile to add to feminism because she has opened up the debate. I think her views are definitely radical in many ways but this in itself isnt a bad thing because it stimulates discussion. The fact that so many people dislike her is, in a way, support for this. For instance, you may dislike Greer but you may also unknowlingly agree with her e.g. do you think that 'girl power' was an effective movement? However I extremely dislike Greer on the TV as she comes across a parody of Ann Robinson. Did you see her on 'the most entertaining TV moments of 2001' over new year? Oh My God. In this way I think she gives femininsm a bad name. Also The Whole Woman has been of little practical use to me.
------------------------------------------------------------
I cant think of any sight more beautiful than seeing Dr. greer drown in a large vat of concentrated testosterone. **Ty- She is the #1 reason not to go to Warwick**
------------------------------------------------------------
Tim Are you threatened by her? If so, why? and Ty, you shouldnt base your decision of university on one lecturer. Warwick is outstanding for English and you will probably love it there. Also, there is no harm in being exposed to people you disagree with.
------------------------------------------------------------
Yes darling, i think he knows about Warwick, Ty and Jack Hindley being some of my heroes of this language which we are speaking.
threatening? no. ridiculous? yes.
------------------------------------------------------------
I think its a shame that people react with hostility without actually knowing what she actually stands for. What do you know of her?
------------------------------------------------------------
I've seen interviews on the television and read articles in the independant. She is precocious and suprisingly narrow-minded.
------------------------------------------------------------
#1 read my above argument.
#2 how many of these articles have you read and what were they about?
------------------------------------------------------------
how useless men are. I wonder what gender the human was who designed and made the computer she wrote the article on. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
------------------------------------------------------------
Germaine Greer doesnt think men are useless. Like many feminists she criticises patriarchy. This is the ideological system that determines social norms and values in society. From what Ive read, she doesnt think men are useless. It is the way that they have been socialised, the definition of masculinity that society imposes, that she criticises. It is the system, not the product.
------------------------------------------------------------
arse arse arse arse arse arse arse arse arse arse. She said, in the last article i saw, that men had performed their function and are now redundant. ARSE.
------------------------------------------------------------
Tim I love you but you are missing the point. She obviously means that the way men have been brought up is redundant. Of course men arnt redundant, THAT'S arse. I think what she meant was that the social definition of masculinity is redundant. All that means is that it needs to adapt to modern day.
-----------------------------------------------------------
i cant be bothered to read anymore. I'm (cheese) bored. Why am i so horrible? becausei am superior
