The first time eating after braces, (a roast beef sandwich), i too thought stuff was stuck in my teeth, but i've learned it's just a feeling. Since I went to the bathroomto brush it out but nothing was there.
What works great for me is to have a large drink to help swish out any of the food that gets stuck. No problems yet after 4 days and today i had my first salad from chick-fil-a and it was delicious. Biting into things is getting a little easier for me too now. Also, for each meal i just chew all the food on one side of my mouth, so only half the braces ever really get messy at a time. And i alternate sides, like right side for breakfast, left side for lunch, right side for dinner, left side for next breakfast... that way everything still gets the same amount of usage, just easier to clean up afterwards.
My pocket essentials are a compact tooth brush, mirror and metal pick.
