In reply to: Leslie 's message, "Retainers worse than braces??" on 20:45:34 07/18/04 Sun

I am now wearing my Essix retainers. They really are invisible! They really are tight, too: takes real effort to get them to snap on and especially off! They are not as comfortable as nothing, in which I luxuriated for 6 hours between debanding and retainer fitting. I know I will grow accustomed to them, but I can see why a person would eventually grow lax and not use them more and more. I am determined, however, to maintain my painfully and expensively arranged teeth, no matter how bothersome, the rest of my life. I was told to brush them with toothpaste and a toothbrush each time I put them back in after eating and given a sample of Retainer Brite to soak them in once a week. Unfortunately, I have a very sore knot on the side of my tongue where it was pinched this morning, trying to get the molar band off, and it rubs the retainer edge painfully. I have Orabase on it and may resort to a pad of gauge for sleeping.
