Subject: Should I remind you your comparisons or what?
In reply to: Peter van der Hoog 's message, "What a ridiculous comparison" on Sat, January 04 2003, 11:36:31

It was a message to Todd, Peter. Yours I left on the old board:
http://www.voy.com/3935/2698.html

>To be compared to an evil examinator, described in
>'Archipelago Gulag' is a bit too much. What are you
>talking about?

If you read it, you must have remembered the tactics of interrogations I'm talking about. It is all about a definite psychological effect. A prisoner is asked by two examining magistrates, one of them rude, another one, in contrast, very nice and polite. Sometimes it can be the same examiner, changing his tone. The prisoner refuses to answer the questions of 'evil' examiner and in contrast ready to speak with the kind one. I'm aware that you don't like it, but it is a real association that came to my mind. Should I remind you of your comparisons?

I’ve always been clear and
>straightforward: I don’t believe you married
>BF
. With that simple fact in mind my behaviour is
>explainable and not rude at all.

You don't know the laws. Ethical harassment and hostile treatment with explanations still stay the same ethical harassment and hostile treatment and nothing else. You are violating my human rights.

You’d better ask
>yourself why you keep up with my disbelief for so many
>years.

You also don't know the elementary rule of ethiquette: it is very tactless to ask a woman any questions about her past. She don't have to speak about it.

>About Todd: He thinks you a very valuable asset to his
>forum. The truth is not important to him. He thinks
>that somebody like you gives his forum prestige and
>consequently gives him prestige. He always
>defended you for 100%, much to my irritation and he
>only spoke of you with the highest regards.

Yeah. Especially after your 'we are in Heaven' remark.

>About the 10 mails per day Todd and I exchanged,
>that’s not true. I wonder why Todd is telling such a
>lie.

OK, let us suppose Todd is exaggerating(although I don't know why should he do that). Then would you tell me how many letters you and Todd exchanged per day during the periods then he asked 'your' questions.

>Often I wonder what will happen when I believe you
>did marry BF (or when I’m convinced that you
>did not). My prediction is that our conversation will
>die out very rapidly.

I many times thought what would have happened if we'd occasionally met in Roma in the summer of 1972. Something like 'Back in the future', you know. My prediction that it would have been a short romance finished before its start after you would have said some silly thing.

>I got up this morning and suddenly had this idea,
>let’s go to the chess shop at the Haarlemmerdijk and
>buy the Russians versus Fischer book. I took my bike;
>it is freezing cold, cycled along the canals and
>entered the chess shop. The first book I grabbed was
>“Russians versus Fischer”! I already read a large part
>of it. First impression: interesting and well
>balanced. First surprise: Fischer is very positive
>about Petrosian and vice versa. When you read between
>the lines you notice that Petrosian criticises the
>Soviet press.

It is very nice that you've followed my advice and bought the book at last!
