Nowhere in the release does it state that Mr. MacKay's campaign is not getting calls relating to outright support for his campaign; it merely states that calls are being received by lapsed mambers wishing to come back to the fold.

Mr. MacKay's campaign has received an excellent and healthy response across the country. From the information I have been able to gather, this same thing cannot be said of some of the other high profile campaigns to the extent that Mr. MacKay is gaining support. In many areas of the country, information passed to me indicates strong MacKay and Orchard support levels, with Mr. Brison and Mr. Prentice falling well below expectations unfortunately.

I have to say, granting that the race has only just begun, up to this point there is no rational reason to believe Mr. MacKay's campaign is anything but strong and healthy. Up to this point, it is the Brison and Prentice campaigns that seem to be falling short of expectations in levels of support. Admitting facts is a sign of confidence, I would argue. David Orchard is very strong; stronger than any other candidate other than Mr. MacKay, going on the events up until tonight. These are facts.

By the way, in case you haven't noticed, this type of tactic is used by all types of people in public and private life; it's just a part of campaigning. Governments, parties, lobbyists and interest groups continuously use scare tactics and the "boogeyman" approach to rouse latent or passive levels of support. I think of the "Romanow Now" billboards I have the displeasure of reading while driving my fair city. They state there is a choice between two, and only two, alternatives; Public health care, and Private, For-profit, Two-tier health care. Simplistic? Yes. Misleading? Yes. Scare tactic? Yes. Effective? Again, unfortunately yes. The use of a campaign scare tactic is just that, a tactic. Use of scare tactics does not imply fear in the ranks of the campaign leadership.

I, for one, and those around me in our campaign are not "scared" of Mr. Orchard's campaign. We do have a pointed interest in it however, since Mr. Orchard's campaign is the one that seems to be our primary and strongest opposition on a riding by riding basis. When recruiting, I promote my ideas, which are Mr. MacKay's ideas, and attack primarily Mr. Orchard's. This is because I disagree with Mr. Orchard on almost every policy stance, and because he is the primary obstacle in my area of responsibility to electing delegates to the convention. It's that simple. No more, no less. And No Fear.
