Hornblower smiled and nodded to Sydney's request. He got up and hobbled over on his one good leg and one wooden leg to an ornate cabinet of some dark hardwood. He produced a key from his pocket, opened the cabinet, and took out a fine green bottle and a glass. He poured some liquid into the glass and hobbled over and handed it to Sydney. "I wouldna let any o' the sailors know ye got anethin from me, I don't allow them te be drinkin' while sailin'." He winked with his good eye, locked the bottle back up and took his seat.
As he sat back down, he eyed the pendant that Rhamberdie was playing with. "What that thing be, boy? If'n ye got it from Telmar, I be bettin' that it was magical in some way, more likely tha' not." He then turned to Link. "Quebec, is it? Quebec be a big place, lad. He couldna get any more specific than that? North? South? Arr...that Telmar, always be givin' me trouble, him. Well, I be sailin' down to Mary's Harbor, I got some cargo to drop off there. I'll let ya off..."
He was cut off as Sira climbed onto the table from her place next to Link's chair. She shrunk down so she could easily maneuver among the table settings and made her way over to the bejeweled "compass" that Telmar had given them. As she approached, all the gems gave off an intense light, yet still seemed to appear that they were glowing at Sira. She reached over and touched it lightly, the gems immediately becoming dark once more. She seemed as amazed as Hornblower, her face scrunched up in concentration, as if trying to remember something just beyond her reach. Hornblower, though, just stared open-mouthed at her and the compass, not knowing what to make of it.
