The problem with the left's position on this (and I am a
proud leftist, btw) is that too many people are willing to reduce this mess to the simple notion that Bush is serving his corporate masters and the real intent behind this war is a money grab.

I think that the fact that American companies, both oil and infrastructure redevelopment players will make billions out of this is just the cherry on top. It is about hearts and minds. Wolfowitz and Pearl, and the rest of the Chickenhawks have been wanting to use Iraq as a petri dish for the past ten years. The war and installation of a government which appears to rule via Western style Democracy is the Bush administration's response to the growing threat of Islamic fundamentalism.

They believe that they can make an example of Iraq, and then make Iraq into a compelling argument for our way of life. It won't work. Their belief that materialism and American "freedom" will win out over Fundamentalism and anti-Colonialism is a gross miscalculation.

The L.A. Times article citing a recent report generated within the Bush administration which expresses serious doubts about their "Democracy Dominoe" theory. Unfortunately, it's too late. They made this decision a long time ago and we're all going to pay.
