The following repost was originally written & posted by Betty Pearl under his other name at another site. I'm reposting it here with his permisson with his other name deleted. CNN & other News visitors have his permission to quote any or all of it, as long as it's quoted fairly & accurately, as "talk off the net", just like last time.
Subject: War protesters
The next time people call war protesters names like, anti-american, non-patriotic, flag burners, communists or liberals to discourage them from their right to free speech, remember to open your history books.
We didn't win the Korean war. The governments signed a treaty after it was about to escalate to WWIII...pressured by protesters in all countries including the USA, that had enough already & didn't care what names they were called for disagreeing with their governments.
China & the Soviet Union opposed the USA in that war, had nukes, & like the USA, had their finger on the button, ready to push it. It wasn't just a small war against a small country any more.
We didn't win the Vietnam war either. Nixon didn't stop it. Protesters pressured the government, & we got the hell out. Again, China & the USSR opposed the USA in that war too, had nukes, & just like the USA again...had their finger on the button, ready to push it.
...AND, while you're in the history books... read about blindly trusting your government. You'll find plenty of accounts in history where our government & it's officials lied, or misled the public plenty...& it didn't have to do with "national security", but saving face or cheating.
You'll also find plenty of accounts where they also did some really stupid stuff that should never have happened if someone asked questions. But according to the government, it's un-American, & un-Patriotic to ask questions or disagree...well NOT according to the Constitution that I read... & principles that the USA was founded on.
If it wasn't for the war protesters most of you or your parents wouldn't be here right now. 25% of all the males in my family who were eligible draft age (the ones now over 40 kids) during the Vietnam war would have came back in body bags if they served...plus many more would have came back severely mentally or physically crippled.
...And let me tell you about WWIII, the aftermath would be much worse than a Mad Max movie. The few that survived a modern world war, wouldn't have much to live for, & wouldn't live long. The environment would be so contaminated, it would wipe out most plant & animal life, & the water would be poisoned. WWIII is not survivable.
The Berlin Wall fell, the Soviet Union broke apart, China is getting more capitalistic to feed their masses. Not 1 shot was fired to achieve this.
It's cool to be able to kick a bully's butt, it's great for TV ratings, & sure looks cool on the screen. But the reality could effect generations to come. This is not a movie folks!
I made more friends out of my enemies by shaking their hands & talking to them, than by hitting them over the head with a bat, but I still keep the bat handy... in case all other options fail.
So give the protesters a break, especially the American ones who support our country, & our hard working, brave troops, but don't support a method that history has already proven doesn't work.
As for me, I'm getting too old to try to save the world again... I paid my dues when I was much younger. So the next generation can't blame me for this world... it may be up to them because many of us old folks have forgotten or chose to ignore our history.
I'd like to think the world is a lot better & the human race survived because we tried hard to make it that way. I'm surprised how many who stood beside us years ago when they were younger for a better world, have become turncoats, supporting everything they hated, or simply forgot.
It wasn't just hippies, hendrix, & hemp back then kids. It was scientists, professors, & students with a sincere desire for a better world... many of which are now your teachers, professors, mayors, governors, & the president.
A month, a year, or a decade from now, you may be a protester too... when you had enough.
Or you can do what big corporate management & big government do when they screw up... blame it on someone else & quickly change the subject...until the world dies.
