Hello,
My name is Christina and I'm a college student. I'm a senior this year and I've been doing a little research on student with dyslexia. I myself have been diagnosed with dyslexia for nearly twelve years now. My situation is a little unusual and I'm looking for someone who might know the answer to my upcoming question. You see I'm and English major ironically enough. I fight this disability every day in order to get through the year as an English student. I love to write and I refuse to allow this disability from taking over my passions and desires. I have problems with reading but not frequently, but when the problem occurs it's frustrating. I can at times stare at a word as common as my name and not know it for a minute or two. when reading I feel like my mind is randomly keeping certain information and throwing out the rest. My main question is this- Is a dyslexic student better at tests based on multiple choice questions or essay questions? The reason why I ask is because when I take an exam, if it is based on multiple choice question I will more or less fail, but if an exam is based on a essay format then I do well. It is the way multiple choice questions are structured. I'm currently trying to get the disability dept. at my school to allow a dyslexic student the choice. If the professor is willing to make an exam with essay questions insetad of multiple choice then a student with disabilities can take that option if it shows that they understand the material. If anyone has an answer to my question please e-mail at legacylady7@yahoo.com. I have no argument unless I have factual evidence that this is true.
Thank you for your time,
Christina
