Are you attending a feis for the first time? Do you need a refresher or have questions about what you need to, what is expected of you or, what to expect? Do you know where to get a stage schedule, how to read it and what time to arrive at the venue?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, please plan to attend the “First Feis Info Session”;
Date: Sunday February 14
(for the love of Irish Dancing of course)
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Location: Goggin-Carroll Dance Studio
Members of the OIDA, who have 100’s of feis experiences combined, will be presenting the information, providing handouts and available to answer any feis questions you have. Barb will also be there to outfit the dancers.

Hello GC Families!
My Aunt and I have put up an envelope at the dance hall for people to place pictures from the past few years. I know some parents don't come down often enough to see that it was there or their child doesn't notice it.
We would like to make some new collages of pictures from everyone of all levels! I have tons of pictures and so does my Aunt but mainly from events we were present at.
If you have a few photos to add to display at the hall you can place them in the envelope on the board at the hall or email them to myself stewart_lauren23@yahoo.ca or gfife1@gmail.com

Parents and dancers need to check their bags carefully when leaving class.
Twice this week dancers leaving a Novice or Open class have mistakenly taken the wrong bag and taken one of the Open Champ dancer's bags. Because these dancers don't use their shoes between classes, they aren't even aware they don't have their own bags until they return to class.
Unfortunatly in both cases, the Champ dancers couldn't fully participate in their own classes because their hardshoes were in their bags. In one case it was a World's Dancer who then had to miss her next lesson because she didn't have her shoes. In the case tonight, hopefully we have contacted the family early enough that the bags can be switched.
Please put some type of identifier on your bag and double check when you pick it up that its actually yours. In the same respect, dancers arriving into the change room should not move another dancer's bag out of the way for their own or risk your own bag disappearing.
The change room is crowded and the bags are all the same. Its up to everyone to make sure they have their own stuff.

The Claddagh Ball is open to ALL Goggin-Carroll parents, families and friends. It is a wonderful opportunity for a fun night out where you will enjoy great food, great company, excellent entertainment and unique shopping at our fantastic silent auction. It’s a great way to get to know other Goggin-Carroll parents, families, and friends; all of whom do so much to support our school and our dancers. This year we have live entertainment from the very popular band, Fiddlestix.
The Claddagh Ball is our annual celebration of dance and our main fundraiser for our World qualifying dancers heading to Glasgow, Scotland in March this year. It is organized and sponsored by the OIDA and the parents of our World qualifying dancers. Always highly anticipated, you will enjoy a performance from our World qualifying dancers. Remember…one day this could be your dancer!
All the information on the evening, tickets and events can was emailed to all GC Families today. If you did not receive it, email Barb. Your message may have been one that bounced back to her.

- When Classes are Cancelled Due to Weather -- Barb, 11:42:32 01/19/10 Tue
Although the weather has been great recently, when we do have to cancel Oakville classes due to weather, this is the three methods we use to contact our families....
1/ We post a message after 2:00pm at this site stating the date and the cancellation of classes. Decision to cancel classes is generally made at 2:00 based on the weather reports at that time.
2/ We change the school voicemail message to notify those that call in that classes have been cancelled for that day. The school voicemail can be reached at (905) 844-0333.
3/ We send an email to all classes scheduled for that day. It is important that we have a current email address on file for every GC Student. If you have not recently received the Incentive Program information, then we do not have a current email address for you. Email Barb by clioking on the above address and provide your current and most used email address.

Hi GC Parents!
2010 is fast approaching and with it our first GC Bus Trip of the year! The OIDA has chartered a bus for the weekend of January 15 – 17 to take 56 people to the Pender Keady Feis in New Canaan, Connecticut. The bus trip is open to all dancers, competing at all levels. Here are the details:
THE BUS: The cost of the bus is $85 per person ($80 per seat plus $5 each as a tip for the driver). The sign-up sheet has been posted at the studio or you may reply directly to Tara Lee at tara_lee@rogers.com Confirm your booking by leaving your cheque, payable to the Oakville Irish Dance Association, in the mailbox at the studio. Cheques can be post-dated for January 8, 2010. Seats will be confirmed once a cheque is received, on a "first come, first served" basis.
If we don't fill all 56 seats by the Christmas Party on December 15th we will again offer any remaining seats to outside dancers from other schools. If, after the Dec. 15th deadline your plans change you will either need to find someone to take over your seats or you will be responsible for paying for the seats you had on hold. In the past we have been in the position where last minute changes close to our departure date have made it impossible to fill the seats and it’s not fair to expect others to cover the costs. Your understanding in this matter is greatly appreciated.
The bus will be leaving from the GC Studio at 6:30 a.m. on Friday January 15, 2010 - please plan to arrive at the studio by 6:00 a.m. The bus will be leaving the hotel at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday January 17, 2010 and returning to the GC Studio by approximately 6:00 p.m. that day. It is a nine hour trip, plus breaks/border crossings. All participants require a valid passport and single parents travelling without their spouse require a letter of permission from the absent parent. The seating on the bus is on a first come, first served basis. We do however ask that the 8 seats at the very front of the bus be reserved for the bus trip organizers. This allows for better communication with the driver and for planning our rest stops/shopping excursions as well as operating the DVD player (feel free to bring along a kid friendly flick).
*Please note: We will be making arrangements to schedule a couple drop off/pick-up times on feis day. These will be the only times offered and it will be up to each individual to make alternate travel arrangements outside of these scheduled times. This will allow for the holding tank to be emptied.
THE FEIS: You are responsible for your own feis entries. The website is www.pender-keady.com . You must mail in a 3x5 index card with dancer registration information together with a US cheque or money order. The entry deadline is December 18, 2009 but Pender Keady will allow a grace period until January 1, 2010 for those participants travelling on the bus. Please don't delay in getting your entry in.
THE HOTEL: We have a group block at the Doubletree Hotel, Norwalk CT at a rate of USD $84.00 per night (2 queen/1 king). To book online follow these steps:

Enter your check in & check out dates, click Go
Scroll to the bottom and enter Group Code: OID
Continue to follow prompts to complete reservation & record your confirmation number. Reservations can also be made by calling 1-800-492-7148, and requesting the group: OIDA.
The hotel does include an indoor pool. Stamford Town Centre is located a short cab ride away as well as local shops/restaurants. Please book immediately as there are limited rooms available. The deadline to book into the group block is January 1, 2010.

The OIDA is planning the next bus trip. Its January 15 - 17 to the Pender Keady Feis in New Canaan Connecticut.
Information will be in the newsletter, although rates and hotel information is not yet confirmed. Will be shortly.
A sign up sheet will be posted at the studio this week to start getting those interested listed for the bus.

The GC Family Christmas Party will be at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Tuesday, December 15th at 6:30 pm.
A sign up sheet will be posted at the studio to let the OIDA know how many from your family will be attending. This is limited to immediate family only. There are space limitations.
Admission is a non-perishable food item for the Oakville Food Bank.

Just in case there are those that don't read the ECR message board...
EARLY BIRD SPECIAL - Just a quick message to make those who were unaware that we have continued our event special of "tax and shipping included" to all orders received by the end of tomorrow, Sunday November 22nd (with payment made by Nov25th). This is to provide those whose photos were not available to view at the event the same opportunity to take advantage of the special as those who danced on Friday and had photos available to view/purchase.
We have also instituted a new bonus. For every 5 photos you order (anything but portraits qualify) you will receive and extra 5x7 COPY of one of the photos you've ordered.
