I hope my kids never try to make spears with sharpened sticks when they are playing because spears are (were) made to kill!!!

"No matter if it's human or animal, a gun has no other function than to maim or kill."

Kharn your ignorance on this part is atrocious. Have you ever heard of "target shooting" (paper targets, trap and skeet, etc...)? My Winchester Model 94A .44 caliber lever action rifle has had about 200 rounds go through it and the only thing it has killed is a few cans, some card board boxes, and the poor dead tree that I use to lean the stuff against.

"What KSM is trying to say, I think, is that thinking of guns as normal is thinking of maiming and killing as normal. And that's true, the moment the tool is normal, the effect is normal as well. And whether you hurt animals or humans with it is besides the point, a gun can never be considered purely as a means of defense, because it is an offensive device, like it or not."

Yeah, I *normally* shoot at the people and stray animals in my neighborhood. I'd be willing to bet that less than .01% of the rounds I have fired have been aimed at anything living (other than a tree with a target hanging on it), and if this is 'normal'.

That's a pathetic defense, and if you concocted that yourself, then it is probably a benefit to society that you never own a firearm, because you would be the first candidate as a serial killer, since using a firearm in your perspective will eventually lead to the idea that "maiming and killing [are] normal"...

I've fired hundreds of thousands of rounds in no less than 50 different guns. Maiming and killing are not normal to me.
