I did my four after college from '84 to '88.

After basic, I went to Sniper school. After graduating sniper school, I had the option of going through special ops training with various units outside the corp. This included some travel abroad and training with foreign units.

I figured after four years I had fulfilled my obligation and it was time to get on with real life.

The Army in general, not special forces, is full of dinks and dorks and the human offal that other military branches won't touch. It's entry standards are lower than any other branch of service.

I grew up near Ft. Belvoir, just outside D.C. and I had the opportunity to see the 'Army of One' in action on a regular basis. I figured if I was ever in a combat situation, I wasn't going to be surrounded by dipshits more dangerous than the enemy.

That combined with the fact that my Father was a WWII Marine vet (he was a DI at Camp Pendelton, and later fought and was wounded at Guadacanal) made the Corp an obvious choice for me.

I figured after surviving 18 years of boot camp at home with the meanest bastard who ever lived, what was a few weeks at Parris Island?

Being a Marine and a non-com means I hold every other branch of service, and all officers, in contempt on principle alone.

A Marine prefers to start fights with squids first, flyboys second, officers third, and lastly army grunts. Why the army boys last? Because they are the least challenging of course!

My dear old Dad got into so many barfights at Camp Hollywood, he was eventually busted down in rank and shipped out. He ended up a two stripe with two purple hearts and a silver star with oak leaf cluster. He still carries shrapnel in both his knees and an extra belly button from a bayonet wound he received at Guadacanal.
