Subject: exactly right

this is exactly right - gorillas, for example have huge canines, and are totally herbivorous ( and also very closely related to humans genetically.) they eat ONLY vegetation such as leaves and fruit. So canines such as ours are tiny in comparison to theirs. But since meat is so high in protein, it is considered very nutritious, and if we lived in the wild and were nomadic ( like the tribal aborigines of australia) that would be our main source of protein. But as we have such easy access to other protein rich foods, which are vegetable based - such as soy, beans & lentils and nuts, we don't have to rely so much on meat as part of a healthy diet. Animals have many other uses to us besides being our source of food. They are used many countries as work animals, to plow fields, move logs and help carry heavy loads as well as primary trasportation. So their existence on this earth is not only as part of our food chain.
