This reminds me of something. I always wanted to know how you Americanīs manage to keep the (real) Christmas tree nice for many days. I have heard some put it up very early so that it is up for a month or so. I have tried that, but even with watering the thing gets dry and kinda shrinks, with hanging branches and such, after 2 weeks or even earlier.

    Is there a trick?

    Thanks!*g*

  • Surgery.....again -- Betsy, 11:49:00 12/15/03 Mon
    Hi Everyone,

This Wed., day after tomorrow, I go into the hospital for another surgery. This is the third one this year. *sigh* My knee, which was just a year ago, is doing beautifully. My gastric bypass is a huge success!!! and I'm now down 96 lbs. and feeling like a new woman. This time, it is my shoulder. When I fell in August, I fractured my shoulder, tore my rotator cuff, and yanked a chunk of bone up. It has no chance of healing without this surgery. So here I am again, asking for prayers and energy to be sent to me. I feel like a vampire, sucking up energy all the time. It's becoming a bit embarrising to ask.... but I also know I don't dare go into this WITHOUT the prayers.

Thanks, SW Family. Perhaps after this surgery, I'll be able to sit at the computer for more than a few minutes at a time.

    Blessings, Betsy

As a lot of you may know, Judie has been soo great at posting Christmas music for all of us over on the Social Board at LOL each day. It's been a great medley-I've already burned one CD from all her choices.
Today she has posted a song called The Christians and The Pagans by Dar Williams. It's a song that I've never heard before but it is a very good song.
So if you have a chance, hop on over there and take a listen-it's well worth it.
Judie has done just a brilliant job at this music game!!!!

  • Opinions Needed! -- Lori, 01:42:35 12/07/03 Sun
Hi all. Well I'm having a bit of a dilema that I think some of you might be able to help with. To update those of you who don't know, I have quite a few of my celtic & chakra pieces in a gallery here in Minneapolis. The owner has several classes at the gallery available and they like the artists who have their stuff there to teach these classes. We have recently discussed me teaching a class on gemstone energy healing and using gemstones in ones everyday life. I have the knowledge and have studied this myself for almost 10 years. My dilema is there really isn't a specific title or credit program available for it and there are a few of them on-line but they're all different. I feel that I have my own way of doing things and I would basically leave it up to the students to take the info I teach and use it in their own way. Do you feel that I would be qualified not having a special certification or some type of energy healing degree? I feel in my heart I have the knowledge to pass this info on to others but I still feel that others might not take me seriously enough because they don't see a piece of paper saying I'm qualified. I will eventually take my Reiki training which will be another tool to use with the stones and I do have several customers I've done healing pieces for that would give me recommendations. I don't know if it's that I'm scared to go with the next step of my "journey" or what. Any thot's would really be appreciated. Thanks much and hugs to all!

A big HUGE HUG to everyone!!!! Life sure has a way of keeping us busy, doesn't it?

I've posted a photo under the Photos Three section. I got a new tattoo on Wednesday and I am really pleased with it. It wasn't nearly as painful as I had been led to believe (or I have no sense, no feeling, LOL), and I think it looks quite nice.

Now, I've been wrestling with an idea for quite some time but I have finally decided to go back to school next year and finish my BScN. It will take me a total of 19 months to do it...but it will be worth it and I've been aching to go back for a while now. I spent last weekend talking with several educators while doing a course and they were soo encouraging. I am likely going to do one of my electives during the Spring just to get on top of things and I was also playing with the idea of doing an essay writing course at our local community college as it's been far too long since I've had to write an essay. Figured this could only help.

If you could return to school to take any course you want, what would be your choice?

Martina, thanks for the reminder that we need the fun things in life as well!!!!

  • Holiday Traditions!!!!! -- Keira, 11:38:49 12/02/03 Tue
How do traditions start and how do you know that what you are doing is a tradition????
In our family (my side of the family), we get together every year on Boxing Day (Dec 26th) and have a big meal and exchange gifts. It's always a great gathering with my sisters and brothers and their families. The preparations start at Thanksgiving when we all pick a name from the hat to buy a gift for someone. Each year the location of the gathering is changed. I host it every other year and one of my sisters hosts it on the odd year. This year is my turn again-which I love!!! Whoever is hosting the gathering cooks the turkey (a feat on it's own as their are often more than 30 people sitting down to dinner) and the other families bring along the other dishes. After dinner, we gather round the tree and everyone opens a gift.

Now, the funny thing is...I never thought of this as a tradition until lately. My youngest had to write a story about family traditions and he wrote about our family gathering. I looked back at some of the stories that our children had written over the years, and they all mentioned this get together as a tradition. Even as the kids are getting older and picking up boyfriends and girlfriends, they say they'd never miss this visit.
When I was growing up, all my relatives were overseas so we didn't really do anything special other than call my grandparents on Christmas Day-which was a pretty big thing really. It really makes me feel soo good that we've instilled in our kids the importance of family.

So....what traditions are important to you over this holiday season? Do you celebrate another holiday or celebration other than Christmas? Is there something that you do because your parents did it? What sort of things are your children going to remember?

    Tonsil surgery...

Here's an update for anyone who remembers my SB post back in Sept for my son's snoring/sleep apnea. He is going in Dec. 5 to have his tonsils removed. His tonsils are definitely huge and blocking airways. He has also had two cases of strep in the past month and while 2 cases may not be an indicator of recurring infection I think he will be better having them out. We did have a second opinion yesterday which said the same thing. So off we go.

I ask for thoughts and prayers to help my DH through this. I know he was hoping for some other magical cure at the second opinion. I know Little Guy will be fine. Not that I want to rush him into surgery, I'm the one who didn't even want to take him to the doctor for snoring but know that this is what he needs. DH is a wreck and won't even open up to me about his fears. Everyone works through things in their own way but I worry for him more right now than I do for my son.

    Thanks!

The second two are of Vern & I in all our Scottish Garb. We tried to get a pic of what Vern was wearing under his kilt (sorry ladies, he was wearing a pair of boxers that had a pic of a large fish on it that read "Nice Bass"!). He did however turn, throw his kilt up over his head and show a few lucky folks his "Bass". Unfortunately, the camera didn't catch it in time! We had a good time even tho' it was cold and windy. Hi all! Been a few - I'm getting busier with the holidays coming up like everyone else. Have a question for everyone. Have you ever had a job where your boss or someone in the company has asked you to "cover things up" of a legal nature, change documents in their favor on the books or "twist the rules around" just a bit in their favor? The family I'm working for is doing this all the time. They don't come right out and ask it of me but they do it themselves alot and they've hinted that they want me to do the same. They know I wouldn't even consider it but it's starting to bug me that they do it (and not just one or two of them have a problem in the integrity area!). How would you react if you had to work with these types of people and you loved your job, the pay was decent etc.? Just something to ponder on...Hope everyone is having a great Autumn! • I need to whine -- Betsy, 08:37:18 11/11/03 Tue
Hello and I salute all you Veterans:
Now I need to whine. Ever since I fell three months ago I have had pain in my left arm. I have been having physical therapy twice a week and not making any headway. I haven't been able to sleep because everytime I lie down, the pain increases and I can't stand it. After I've worked, my arm is so bad I have to take vicodin to be able to move. Well, I went to an orthopedic doc yesterday (a friend of mine who usually uses very conservative approaches rather than a trip to the operating room) and we decided to try a shot of cortisone. Then he looked at the xrays. Seems I've been marching around with a fractured shoulder and my rotator cuff tore and took a chunk of bone with it. You can see it in the xray just hanging off and flapping around. WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
So it looks like, once again, I will be heading to the OR. That's three times this year. Too much for me. I just want to cry. Except, I do want all this pain to stop, and he said it absolutley WON'T go away without surgical repair.

On a nicer note, I have done beautifully since my gastric bypass. I am down 4 sizes and 88 pounds. I feel terrific!!! Someone on this board had asked me months ago about the surgery because a family member was thinking of it, and I never replied. I am sorry!!! I am very scattered at times and lost the email. Please EMAIL ME AGAIN. I will try to be better at answering.

Thanks for listening to me whine. OH, has anyone heard from Jeannine??????

  • Two separate emails I just got... -- Lissa, 23:33:14 11/07/03 Fri
On November 8 and 9, there will be in the Northern Hemisphere a total lunar eclipse. And during this eclipse there also will be, worldwide, a most remarkable event in the heavens: a Grand Sextile of planets.

The Grand Sextile is the six-pointed star, sometimes called the Star of David, and it will be formed during the lunar eclipse by five planets and Chiron.

It was John Mirehiel, on August 28, 1998, who discovered this unique astrological chart and named it the "Harmonic Concordance of 2003." It was he, also, who first realized this was not the chart of an individual but of Mother Earth herself (see The Harmonic Concordance of 2003).

This chart, as John Mirehiel related it to me directly, depicts a potentially amazing time when the human race can change the external reality into one that is new, hopeful, and beautiful. This moment represents not the end of life but a new beginning.

And after a great deal of introspection, I have come to believe that this Harmonic Concordance represents an interdimensional opening of unparalleled importance to the human race. I believe that this moment in history is the
time when the 4th Dimension will begin to open on Earth and the parameters of life will be extended beyond what we have previously thought possible.

To the best of my knowledge the Harmonic Concordance reflects a "window" of potentialities from which mankind can catapult (individually and collectively) into creating a wondrous future and which can accelerate the overall ascension process for the planet and all of mankind. This window of opportunity opens on Nov 8 with the lunar eclipse and closes on Nov 23 with the solar eclipse. Whatever we focus our energies on will manifest rather rapidly in our lives... whether we focus with our fears or focus with our heart-felt love.

I'd suggest you begin to see/feel your life flowing
in total FREEDOM... in perfect, vibrant HEALTH... with
    incredible financial ABUNDANCE and SECURITY...
    experiencing and radiating unconditional heart-felt
LOVE to yourself and all others... with expansive
INNER-PEACE.. and incredible HAPPINESS and JOY. I
also recommend that each of us begin focusing our
energies lovingly on what we choose to create...
beginning NOW! For time/space is an illusion and the
best time to create your dreams is always NOW! If you
begin NOW... by November 8th it will be second nature
to you and your energies will consistently be focused
    on creating your dreams.

    Dear Lightworkers

As many of you know the Group has been talking about the Crystal Energy since 2001. Many of our one day seminars over the last two years have shown films of this energy entering our planet through the solar flares. They show how it affects us as it was being stored in the tectonic plates of Earth. This is the energy they say was originally intended to put an end to our planet. Now that we have extended our stay we are using the Crystal Energy to build a new world. The Crystal Energy began from the central sun and was directed through our own solar sun. It began entering our atmosphere with the largest solar flare in recorded history in April of 2001 as an X20 solar flare began sending this energy to Earth. Global space agencies predicted that the solar flares would die down after a time as the Group said these would continue until 2006. Since that time large solar flares have preceded special events on our planet the most recent being a series of solar flares that preceded the recent black outs experienced throughout the world as the portals began to open.

The last two weeks have produced tremendous activity on the sun as huge infusions of Crystal Energy enters the Earth. Although we did not generally feel this energy until it was released from the tectonic plates into our atmosphere, we are now much more sensitive to it than ever before. Those leading the way vibrationaly feel this energy as an emotional disturbance. For many this has been a very difficult time. On November 4th we experienced an X28 solar flare which now has the distinction of being the largest ever. In a time when these solar flares should be dying down they are increasing. NASA won't say it but many scientists are secretly wondering if the Sun is dying. The Group says that the Sun is doing the job we asked of it. They say that this is setting the energy for cosmic event we know as the Harmonic Concordance that will begin on November 8th.

He is a bit over a year old and the most beautiful little boy imaginable!!

    Cut and paste this addy:

My brother is going to be the one to take the 'family leave' because as in a twist of really good fate Stephanie had been interviewing and GOT her 'dream job' during this same time frame!

I SOOOOOO cannot wait to see him in a few weeks...as we are going home for the Thanksgiving week. Without too much detail I will let you know they have known him since he was born and have daily contact with him as well...Cole calls them Mummy and Daddy! I love the little guy already and have never seen him in person!!!

AND...if this wasn't enough...I got a package from ITALY yesterday...a beautiful quilt for wee Cole!! OMG Eva it is beautiful..and will mean so much to my family when they see it!! I will take LOTS of pictures with him and the quilt when I go to see him!!! (I had shared my good news with Judie not that long ago...quilters are amazing!)

My family...like many others of LOLers...USED to think it was weird about our 'online family'...until they saw all you guys did for us when we were going through all the difficulties of my pregnancy with Declan. Now my parents have THREE beautiful grandsons...and my mom thinks she can't handle anymore babies! :)

I think I've rambled and rambled...and probably aren't making any sense now! I've been holding this in and now I think I've just burst! :)

  • Where did I leave off..... -- Lissa, 14:02:54 11/05/03 Wed
It's already been a whole month since I got back from my trip. Seems like it was a year ago. *sigh* I loved the sites that Antje posted about the Cathars, especially the second one. I LMAO with that whole site. Just my kind of humor.

Anyways, after we left Narbonne, we headed over to Stes-Maries-de-la-Mer, which is the place in France that Mary Magdalene is said to have come ashore along with several others in her boat. Even the RC church has this as part of their official legend. However, when we got to the church, we were surprised to see in all the printed material available at the church itself that there was NO mention at all of Mary Magdalen (which I shall type as MM here). Wish I could remember how to do a link (Antje???...) but here is a site about the town... http://www.beyond.fr/villages/stemariesmer.html One thing in common in lots of stories is that there were 3 Marys in the boat, which explains the plurals in the name of the town. It was a lovely little town and their official emblem reminded me of the faith/ hope/ love symbols, with the anchor, heart and cross all in one symbol. The interesting thing to me was noticing how the half-moon of the anchor is reminiscent of the laying-down moon seen in Goddess symbols. This moon shape is also used all thru this town, supposedly as a reminder of the boat these people all came in. Many layers in each symbol, eh? I can't find a picture of it online, but the cross is at the top, with the bottom part stretching down thru a heart shape and ending in junction with the moon/boat/anchor part.

We then went to St-Maximin-La-Ste-Baume to check out the Basilica where MM is said to be buried. This town is further east, on the other side of Marseilles, and exactly north of where Isabelle used to live (Toulon). The Basilica of Saint Mary Madeleine was started in 1295 on the site where MM was buried. Here is the website... http://www.lesamisdelabasilique.com/general_uk.htm At the top of the screen is a wee slideshow. The picture of a head on golden wings is the reliquary of MM skull down in the crypt. Yup, that's right, her skull. Of course, there is no way to prove this, but that is what the tradition holds. This was a lovely ancient place full of wonderful energy that was delightful to meditate in. We stayed until it closed and then decided to come back in the morning for Mass before moving on.

We found a nice hotel within easy walking distance of the Basilica, and had a lovely dinner in an Italian restaurant across the street. Another toast for finding another nice meal! In the morning, the plaza was filled with the market and we walked thru it on our way to the Basilica. We were waiting at the door when the man came to open it with a HUGE old key. Sad to say, there was no Mass, but we enjoyed the peacefulness again. Once again outside and in the midst of the market (people all set up on the streets with their wares), I saw the perfect market basket for sale that would fit my huge bottle of Lourdes water along with my little backpack. I still wanted to have only carryon for my flight back home. I now have a lovely and useful souvenir. Just as I was paying for this, my eye caught site of a gorgeous wool oversized scarf/wrap/shawl made of a tapestry design of some of my most favorite colors. It was calling to me so I had to get that too. A couple of my traveling companions had large scarves such as this that they had bought in India to use as Prayer Shawls. When you go to meditate, you wrap yourself up in this including over your head, so that your holy space is always with you no matter where you are. I had thought early in the trip how nice that sounded and that I would like to have a prayer shawl too, but then I didn't think anything more of it. Here was my prayer shawl, just waiting for me! The rest of this trip, everytime I meditated in yet another special place, I wrapped myself in it and now I have some very nice energy brought home with me as well.

We headed up into the hills to find the cave where MM spent the last 30 years of her life in prayer. There is a monastery built into the side of this imposing cliff and there has been uninterrupted religious and monastic presence on this site since at least the 5th century. Thousands of pilgrims along with kings, queens, popes and saints have come to visit this cave and to venerate MM. Yet in America, we don't even hear of MM. How interesting. Here is a site with pictures... http://www.lemidi.com/guide/RELIEFS/BAUME/ROYS/index.htm This picture does not show how the cliff rises up out of a forest covered mountain. The hike up to the cave is about a half hour of just about straight up incline. It's the kind of walk where you feel like you are tipping over half way to the ground, where your feet are bent upward as far as possible just to walk. Anyway, I have more info on MM and these sites if anyone wants to know it.

It was now 3pm by the time we finished here and we were determined to get as close to Paris as possible. So what if it was about 8 hours away. My mountain-curve-driving friend got us down and out to the highway. We made a stop at a good ol' American style highway reststop, where all kinds of wrapped sandwiches are available at EVERY HOUR, and had a quickie meal in the parking lot. I got behind the wheel and drove as close to 100mph as possible for the next 6 hours or so. At some point, we stopped at another rest stop, bought more gas, changed drivers and got back on the road. We decided to spend the night in Fontainebleau since it was close to 11pm and we were hoping to be able to find a hotel still open. Nice town, but aren't they all. We slept, we showered, we left, driving right past the gorgeous chateau on our way out of town.

We headed west to Chartres, which took about an hour. This was a dream of mine to one day visit this cathedral. How nice to be able to say I got there. We had fantastic almond croissants and excellent coffee at a wee shop near the cathedral and then went to the cathedral itself. Gorgeous. I was most struck by the labyrinth in the floor and now have something new to obssess over.... labyrinths. hehe I had promised my companions that we wouldn't stay long, that I really really just wanted to get here, so we didn't stay for prayer or meditation this time, as fabulous of a place as it was. But I was happy, so no matter.

Then we headed north toward Versailles where we walked for miles around the grounds. We had a picnic lunch in the small village that Marie Antoinette had built so that she could pretend that she was a peasant. We wondered if she did all the cooking and the work like a peasant, too, but figured that probably wasn't in her fantasy of rural life. (She was the one who said that the starving people of France could eat cake when she heard that they had no bread. Her life was so simple, eh?) We never did get into the main house, but what the heck, one gold encrusted room is the same as the next.

We got to Paris before dark and managed to find a nice little hotel right on the banks of the Seine, directly across from the Louvre. Can you believe that? We had some Onion Soup at a nearby street cafe and then walked around the city before going to bed. But I think I will stop here for now...

  • Let's Have Some Fun! :) A quiz.... -- Linda in sw va, 20:46:14 10/26/03 Sun
First off, thanks ladies for your kind words and prayers! :) :)

I've spoken a little about Doreen's book on Fairies, I picked up this cute little pocket size book from her about, Earth Angels. Titled - Earth Angels - A Pocket Guide for Incarnated Angels, Elementals (fairies, etc), Starpeople, Walk-Ins, and Wizards. In it is a handy little quiz to find out if you may fall into one of these. We all used to pull these fun little quizes out of Cosmo and do them right? I can remember making my hubby take them and he'd just roll his eyes and go along with them...but I digress.

Ok, this is a quiz to find out what kind of 'Earth Angel' you may be, not all of us are. An incarnated Elemental, incarnated Angel, Starperson, Walk In or Wise One. If you fall into one of these I'll type up more detail about that group.

You can print this out and mark your answers, I'll include a key at the bottom to determine if you fit into any of the categories. That way you don't have to send me your answers directly, in case you want to keep them private! :) :)

It's 30 questions, true or false, first thought that comes to mind -

    1. I tend to easily put on extra weight, or I'm currently overweight.

    2. My past or current love partners are addicts or alcoholics.

    3. I rarely break a rule.

    4. I have a hard time saying no.

    5. I highlight, color, or bleach my hair.

    6. I would prefer to help someone one-on-one, rather than in a group setting.

    7. Truth be told, I like animals or plants much better than I like people.

    8. I have Celtic orgins, or I look Celtic (that is, I have a reddish tint in my hair, freckles, or a ruddy
    complexion).

    9. I constantly play practical jokes.

    10. I'm quite the mischief maker, and seem to have a persistent twinkle in my eyes.

    11. I'm fiercely independent and don't like following rules or authority.

    12. My finances seem to be either feast or famine.

    13. I don't like being the center of attention, and I'm usually a wallflower at social functions.

    14. I've always believed in, or been interested in, ET's or UFOs.

    15. I'm compulsively thoughtful toward people, whether they express appreciation or not.

    16. I conduct Reiki or other forms of energy or hands on healing.

    17. My life's mission is more important than getting married and having children.

    18. I really would like ot go home now, because I know that Earth isn't my home.

    19. I had a life-changing experience, such as a serious accident or near-death experience.

    20. In the past, I was so miserable that I wanted to die and seriously considered (or attempted)
    suicide.

    21. I have changed my first name, or I am strongly considering doing so.

    22. My friends and family remark, "You're different now. There's something about you that's not the
    same.

    23. I have made, or am making, drastic changes to many areas of my life simultaneously (such as
moving, changing jobs, and divorcing) all at once.

    24. I have deep spiritual knowledge that didn't come from any books or teachers.

    25. Even though I know I'm different from other people, I sitll enjoy the company of others and get
along pretty well with most people.

    26. I know that I have magical abilities, which are untapped right now.

    27. I have strong past-life memories or interests concerning Arthurian or Atlantean times.

    28. I believe that I was burned at the stake, or killed in some other way, during the witch hunts or
    Inquisition.

    29. I have studied Tarot cards or astrology.

    30. I'm very drawn toward Earth-based spirituality, such as shamanism or full-moon ceremonies.

    Scoring -

The number of True answers that you noted may reveal which realm you're from. Count the number of True answers for each successive grouping of six questions, beginning with the first six.

For example, if you answered four or more true's to questions 1 through 6, then you're probably an Incarnated Angel. (That is, the more questions you answered true to, the more likely you are to fit into this category.)

If you answered four or more true's to questions 7 through 12, then you're probably an Incarnated Elemental.

If you responded true four or more times to questions 13 through 18, then you're most likely a Starperson.

If you had four or more true answers to questions 19 through 24, then you're probably a Walk-In.

If you answered true four or more times to questions 25 through 30, then you're most likely a Wise One.

If your answers don't reflect one particular category over another, then you may be an Evolving Earth Angel or a Dabbler. This is a being who is moving from one realm to another, such as from the Elemental realm into the Starperson realm, a topic discussed in Chapter 8.

*Myself, I scored 5 trues for 'Starpeople', so maybe? :) I did have a psyhic reading where she told me I was from Venus so maybe it's something to think about. haha!

    Hugs and have fun! :)

    Linda
