Subject: Dreams

Well, we haven't had a discussion for awhile so how about this: dreams and what they mean. Do you think dreams send us a message, or are they just our brains processing random thoughts in some sort of order? How about dreams about flying? Are they really astral projections of our souls as some books claim, or something else? OK, ladies and gentlemen...have at 'er!

[> Hi Brenda. Seems like we're all busy and not posting much. I'll venture an opinion about dreams and see if I can generate some comments... I do think that sometimes dreams are more than they appear, but not always. Sometimes they ARE our spirits rattling about the ether, but most times they are just our psyches trying to work out "stuff". Do they ever send us messages? Yes, sometimes. So many times I have dreamed of someone I haven't seen or heard from in years and years, only to either get a phone call or letter the next day. And often I dream solutions to problems...solutions that I know didn't come from ME. -- Betsy, 20:49:19 09/06/04 Mon

[> [> Thanks for posting Betsy. I hope the wedding went well! My personal feelings about dreams are that they are divided into two types. In one type, our brains are just processing things that are happening in our lives (eg the "back to school nightmare I always get before school starts in September where I end up with the class from hell). The other type seems to be more spiritual (eg dreaming of things that eventually happen...premonition dreams, etc.) It is the latter type that I find fascinating. -- Brenda, 00:56:04 09/07/04 Tue

[> [> [> The wedding went beautifully, Brenda. We didn't think David was going to get to be there, but he was, so nothing else really mattered. *S* Funny how sometimes things are just smacked into perspective, eh? And how IS school going? Did you get the class from hell????? -- Betsy, 20:44:46 09/07/04 Tue

[> [> [> [> I'm glad everything went well, Betsy! I started out the day with 5 behavior problem boys all put into MY class and no behavior problems in the other grade 4 classes (apparently when you have good classroom management you end up with all the "energetic" ones) I thought, "Uh, I don't THINK so!" so I managed to relocate two of them. That leaves me with three behavior problems, a mentally challenged special needs girl, and a boy with a chronic health designation. Not an easy class....but better that it was earlier in the day. Wish me luck! -- Brenda, 00:56:13 09/08/04 Wed

[> [> [> [> [> I DO wish you luck, Brenda. This happened to a dear friend of mine a couple of years ago. She is one of the best teachers I've ever met (she's had 3 of my 4 kids...and I speak from experience, not as a friend), and she was given all the kids noone else could deal with. Not the regular challenges, but the kids who not only had behavior problems, but also had the worst disfunctional families you could imagine. All because she was so good at dealing with all types of children. She was less successful in "spreading the wealth" and is now no longer in the classroom. Biggest loss to our school system ever. She's still in education, but on the technical end. My 18 year old still mourns the loss of Cindy to the classroom. Sometimes I wonder what we're doing to our teachers..... -- Betsy, 10:24:30 09/11/04 Sat

[> Ohkay, I've been thinking of this dream post for awhile now. My DD woke me at 2:30 a.m. last night from a strange nightmare, one of those where I couldn't wake up from the dream myself. All I can remember now is something about invisible-(ghosty-like) daimons that would vaporize if you could hit them. So I was just flailing around the room hoping to get them. I don't know what my brain was processing there. I would say I'd read too many Dark Hunter books but it's been over a month since the last one. Usually I am a heavy sleeper and rarely remember dreams let alone getting any messages!! Now onto DD Betsy..... -- JeanClaire*, 10:03:05 09/17/04 Fri

[> [> My DD is definitely a brain process kind of dreamer. All summer long she would have a variation of a dream where her school bus dropped her off at the elementary school and she was in 3rd grade helping her teacher move her classroom instead of going to the intermediate school for her 4th grade class. You know she had the roughest 3rd grade and not the best teacher so I am very sure she was worried(even though outerwardly excited) about going to 4th. I do tell her she can change her dreams and told her to visualize the elementary as a halfway point, with another bus coming to take her to 4th grade. But now that she's in her new school I am sure there are differnt dreams(not sure what her bad dream was last night). -- JC*, 10:08:13 09/17/04 Fri

[> [> Ever since Betsy was a child I would talk to my kids over breakfast about their dreams. I've helped her make a dream catcher when she was very small(3 or 4??) and having bad dreams. I think we saw one on a Barney episode. This one is still hanging off of her headboard--willow branch woven in a circle with brightly colored curling ribbon and pony beads. My son when asked of his dreams often mentions something that happened to him yesterday so I am not real sure there what he is thinking. -- JC*, 10:14:13 09/17/04 Fri
