Subject: Something silly*g*

I'm a fan of the tv-series Everybody loves Raymond. For the first time I can watch it in English, and it's much funnier than the German version. I am amazed how that guy picks up what's going on between men and women. How he manages to exactly show the different perceptions. It seems like men and women live in a totally different world! Of course it's exaggerated as heck, but I often can see my hubby in him!*lol*

So how do you live with the gender difference in your marriage? Are you arguing often, or do you just do the eyeroll and let him be "male"? If so, does he let you be "female", or is he arguing with you?

[> Hahahahahahahahaha...what a wonderful question. Hmmm... I guess that I would have to say that we spend a lot of time eye-rolling at times, and a lot of time talking about what-I-said-what-you-heard-what-I-really-meant at others. After 24 years, we've learned to laugh like crazy at the gender differences. For us, I think the biggest thing is that I am gushy and mushy, and David says that for men, it really comes down to one thing....what can I say and what can I do to get sex. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. He can be incredibly romantic, but it just makes me giggle, because I know deep down, he's really wondering WHEN WILL THIS ALL WORK??? Hahahahahaha. -- Betsy, 10:12:51 02/09/05 Wed

[> [> I'm making David sound pretty awful. He really IS quite romantic at times. Last Sat. I had to drive 3 1/2 hours to a meeting, and he went along for the ride. He took a copy of Outlander in the car and read to me outloud the entire way.... sigh. What a guy!!! He also read to me while I lounged in the bathtub. By candlelight. While I soaked in oil. *BIG SIGH* And yup...all that romance worked.... -- Betsy, 10:16:32 02/09/05 Wed

[> [> [> Aww, how sweet! Don't worry, I got you right, you didn't make him sound awful! JS is in no way different.*LOL* But you know, I believe sex is just their best way to express their emotions. It's not ONLY about the physical stuff for them, even if it all comes down to that.*BG* -- Martina, 11:28:27 02/09/05 Wed

[> Wow, it's great to see people posting here again! I can't help think back to DG's words "testosterone poisoning" when I think of gender differences. The biggest difference I notice is in how we interact with our kids. The DH seems to have more patience with our DD and I have more patience with our DS (needless to say, they each know which parent to go to when they want something *g*) -- Brenda, 12:51:30 02/09/05 Wed

[> Gery and I tend to roll eyes but tolerate differences BUT some that i feel a man could work on or things that really bug me I figure it's to late for Gary but I can fix my son. So I often take him aside an explain why what dad did made me mad or hurt feelings and please do not do this or that etc. I guess someday when he grows up and is married I will fins out from his wife did any of this work. Wow Betsy I am so jealous Gary would never even read Outlander let alone read to me aloud as we were driving. Lucky girl. -- Reenie, 13:22:37 02/09/05 Wed

[> Hi guys! This wallpaper is one of my favorites by Jennifer. Hello to everyone, hope you all have had a great year or so. It's been a good one for me, to be sure. But about gender differences, I think that my husband and I are finally getting to a stage where we neither fight nor roll eyes, but are actually starting to understand and be patient with each other! How amazing! haha I think we are both reaching stages in our lives where have less stresses and so more room in our heads to think of something else besides getting through the day. But I think Betsy gets the prize for most romantic husband, even if his motive is the same as ever. *wink* Whatever it takes, baby! -- Lissa, 13:24:08 02/10/05 Thu

[> [> LISSALISSALISSA!!!!! How's it going??? How was your Holiday in Germany? And how are Antje and Family??? So good to see you here! -- Betsy, 12:21:02 02/11/05 Fri

[> [> [> Hi Betsy! Germany was lovely and it was so nice to spend time with Antje and her family. We brought baseball equipment over and everyone had fun playing together. My kids were not very excited to be woken up everyday at their body's clock of 3am, just to go see things, but I think they enjoyed themselves well enough. (Such evil things we parents do to our kids, like waking them up to see and experience new things.) And of course, it was so nice to see my big girl again. Antje's family has become her second family and it's a wonderful thing for everyone all around. We really are blessed with the friendships we have made on these boards. *sniff* -- Lissa, 22:12:57 02/11/05 Fri

[> [> [> [> And I have to mention all the lovely holiday meals and parties that Antje put together while we were there.... for both Christmas and New Years. We did lots of feasting and it was divine to share so much good food and good talk. The only thing missing was Martina and her family. (We really do need to work on this cosmic ordering, eh?) -- Lissa, 22:23:02 02/11/05 Fri

[> Hi Everyone, It's been a long time! I'm a big fan of Everybody Loves Raymond! I'm a eyeroller. Another thing that connects with me is Debra and the MIL. It's not that bad for me and my MIL but there are times..... -- Deb, 11:21:38 02/12/05 Sat

[> I don't watch it often but whenever we do, we always laugh at all the stuff they pick up... Makes you feel like "I'm not alone' after all!!! DH is pretty good, I can't complaint , he will do all the romantic stuff, like I've never had to open my car door when I'm with him, or he pulls my chair for me, even put the toilet seat down after he uses it 'g'..Best, he irons his own clothes yeahhhh "ggg". But one domain where he doesn't want to go... is that I've learned not to ask "Do I look fat in this"? because as he said, it's a lose lose argument, no matter what he says, I don't like the answer and he'd rather not say it at all "VBG" -- IsabelleKiltup, 13:30:21 02/13/05 Sun
