Subject: What's New??

Since everyone seems to be hibernating...
Read any good books?
Any more good movies?
Try any good food?
Any new good wishes to post?

It's my Little Guy's birthday today! Can't believe he's 6. He's doing well now after surgery and weighs one more pound than before. I have to go frost cupcakes for school and we are planning a Finding Nemo party with his friends next week.

About posting birthdays/celebrations--do we want to continue and if so are there any new people that need to be updated? Come on you lurkers, post up a storm and email me your info to add to my list!!

[> HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MINGO! I just finished the last book in the Patrick O'Brien series which started with "Master and Commander", and I feel the same as I do after reading Diana's books. I want more! Unfortunately, Patrick passed away a while ago, and there won't be any more in that series, but he did write a lot of other books. The DVD player and I haven't worked out a mutually satisfactory arrangement yet. Two of my DVD's play fine, and the other two keep fading back and forth, as the DVD attempts to stop me taping it, which I am NOT doing! I'll get the hang of it some day! -- Ron, 15:09:58 01/09/04 Fri

[> [> Heya Ron, I've seen your posts with Sassy about Master and Commander. You know I think my Dad has seen the movie but I don't know if he's read the books. As an ol' Navy man, I bet he would love them. I'll have to check for future gift giving reference or at least tell him to check out his local library. Can't help you with the DVD player other than to wish you luck! -- JC*, 15:16:45 01/10/04 Sat

[> [> Hi, Michelle! You've dragged me out of lurkdom too *g*. I just bought the Time Traveler's Wife yesterday. It looks great! What did you think? Does it compare to DG? Does it get you thinking? I haven't started it yet as I am in the third "Full..." book of the Janet Evanovich series as well as another reread of Cross Stitch. I'll let you know when I get to it :-) -- Kylie McA, 06:02:21 01/17/04 Sat

[> Happy Birthday Mingo and welcome Michelle. Recent movies: Love Actually, Return of the King, Mystic River, Pirates of the Caribbean, Stigmata, Dogma (thanks for the recommendation Colly), probably rented others too but I can't remember. Books: There Be Dragons (Sharon Kay Penman), Nora Roberts "Key" trilogy based on a Celtic myth, just starting Laurell Kay Hamilton series, also have Niccolo Rising waiting as well. Celebrations: went skiing three times over the holidays without injuring any important body parts. I'm taking DD to Ikea tomorrow. She has saved her money to redecorate her room..she's 10 for crying out loud! She has money saved for a loft bed, lamp, and funky accessories. Maybe she will grow up to be an interior designer, who knows....now if she could just keep her room clean.... -- Brenda, 19:42:21 01/09/04 Fri

[> [> Brenda, glad to hear skiing went well. Did your eye clear up fine?? I have a copy of Laurell K Hamilton's "A Kiss of Shadows" Do you want it or anybody else? I'd be happy to send it some place where it will have a good home!! Just can't get into it I guess. I have been getting into Sherilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series!! Deep, dark and delish, yum!! Book goddesses are reading a Perfect Day by Richard Paul Evans and I found an Anya Seton at the library to try too. I'll let you know how I like it. -- Happy Reading all, JC*, 15:34:03 01/10/04 Sat

[> [> [> Thanks JC. Yes, my eye cleared up OK. I have episcleritis, which is an inflammatory disease that affects the outer lining of the eye (episclera). It comes and goes but this last time was a b**ch, it hurt a lot. The doc gave me prednisone (sp?) eye drops but it would have cleared up on its own anyway. OMG, I have to tell you about the doctor>>> -- Brenda, 23:28:53 01/10/04 Sat

There was only one opthamologist open here over the holidays so I went to see him as an emergency case. I swear he must have been pushing 90! He shuffled into the examining room with his two "assistants" in tow (I think they follow him around to catch him if he keels over!). His pants were tucked into his socks and he was wearing a doctor's mask. The mask was a good thing because, even with the mask, his breath smelled like something crawled in there and died a loooooong time ago. I am supposed to go back to see him on the 15th, but seeing as my eye is fine now, I am thinking of cancelling. Yikes!

[> [> [> [> OMis right!! Can you get back to a regular dr for a check up? Warm compresses do help with eyes if they start acting up again. Course with working and kids who has time to lie with a warm pack over the eyes and meditate??? -- JC*, 14:26:13 01/11/04 Sun

[> Happy late birthday to you my dear and to your little guy too!! Haven't been on the boards for a couple weeks. Busy busy! Welcome to all the newbies! Grab a cup of tea or coffee (or as in my case yerba mate' which I'm so glad to have found out about on this board!!) and enjoy a little conversation!! As for me, it was a busy holiday season. Three Christmas celebrations went on, got lots of fun stuff (including the bathtub spa that I so very much wanted after a terrible bad bout with my back). Had alot of last minute orders that sent me scurrying to the post office every day for a week and things at the gallery are going very well. I will be teaching my class on gemstones & crystal energy at the end of Feb. so I'm getting ready for that. Other than that, just reorganizing the house room by room. Boy is this a daunting task hahahahaha but good to get things cleared out. I swear we have a semi load to take to Good Will. Hi to everyone and hope all is well with you and yours. -- Lori, 22:10:06 01/09/04 Fri

[> [> Ohhhhh Lori, been thinking of you! Wish I were closer to take one of your gemstone classes or to just grab a cuppa with you. I was wearing your dragonfly necklace a few days ago and Betsy asked me if I ever sent it back to you for cleaning. When I said no, she informed me that I really should!! So one of these days, I will do that. I'm decluttering over here too. Even in taking down the holiday decorations I ask myself if I love each piece and things that do not give me joy esp. tree ornaments are being donated. Gave a huge stack of magazines to the exchange table at the library and will be getting a box of books together for the Friends of the library sale. Good to clear out every once in a while. -- JC*, 15:53:23 01/10/04 Sat

[> Hello All, hope everyone had a great holiday. Happy belated birthday to Mingo. As for movies, I've seen Return of the King and Cold Mountain. I finished the Lord John book and am now about half way through "The Touch" by Colleen McCullough. I plan to start a reread of "Outlander" after I finish this book. I had the opportunity to try some new food over the holidays. The President of the company I work for and his wife (my supervisor) are from India and they gave a Holiday party. His wife made all the Indian food and the American food was catered. It was some of the most delicious food! I can't pronounce the names of the dishes, but I tried them all (with the exception to shellfish as I have a fiendish allergy to the stuff!) Hope that everyone's year is happy and healthy with a good dose of peace. -- Bandruidh, 13:26:26 01/11/04 Sun

[> [> Nope, we don't need you to try the shellfish! Sounds like a most delish holiday party. So what is "The Touch" about? Can't remember if I've heard that one or not. -- JC*, 06:54:10 01/12/04 Mon

Hamish MacBeth. I want him, I need him, I must have him at least once before I die.
