Tonsil surgery...

Here's an update for anyone who remembers my SB post back in Sept for my son's snoring/sleep apnea. He is going in Dec. 5 to have his tonsils removed. His tonsils are definitely huge and blocking airways. He has also had two cases of strep in the past month and while 2 cases may not be an indicator of recurring infection I think he will be better having them out. We did have a second opinion yesterday which said the same thing. So off we go.

I ask for thoughts and prayers to help my DH through this. I know he was hoping for some other magical cure at the second opinion. I know Little Guy will be fine. Not that I want to rush him into surgery, I'm the one who didn't even want to take him to the doctor for snoring but know that this is what he needs. DH is a wreck and won't even open up to me about his fears. Everyone works through things in their own way but I worry for him more right now than I do for my son.

Thanks!

[> Tell the big guy the little guy will be fine. I had mine out ages ago when I was younger than Mingo, and I'm still here! Just don't tell the little guy some lie about visiting the hospital to see an uncle or grandpa like my parents did to me. They >>>> -- Ron, 08:03:37 11/27/03 Thu

...they got me in the hospital and left me without any explanation, I started to cry and was very angry next when some strangers started yanking my clothes off! I cried all night and kept the other kids awake. I don't remember anything about the operation. Really, what my parents did was not right. A kid ought to know what's happening, then he'll cooperate when he understands. Mingo, you'll do fine!

[> [> Ron, if you were here with us Mingo would tell you, "I have to get my tonsils cutted out." I couldn't lie about something like that. I had mine out when I was seven. And I remember being told I could eat all the ice cream I wanted which was a bit of a lie because nobody wants to eat anything after an operation like that. Ron, this is done as a one day surgery now and no overnight in the hospital either. Thanks for prayers everyone. -- JC*, 08:48:55 11/27/03 Thu

[> Will be thinking about your "little guy" and your "big guy". I'm sure everything will be just fine. I had mine out when I was 5 and back then they made you stay in the hospital for 3 days. But then that was a loooooong time ago hahahahaha. It's so routine now a days that it's no big deal at all. I remember being told I could have lots of ice cream too and even tho' it hurt I'm sure I gobbled it down anyway! Good luck to them both -- Lori, 11:33:00 11/27/03 Thu
