Herein lies another question: Marty Stus, although rarer, are just as annoying. What makes them so?

I looked at my past and present fics for a prime example: Rob. I carried this chump EVERYWHERE. He was Stu like, basically winning every battle, being the main focus, and being the world's most loved (read: hated) self-insertion. (although he got his arse kicked a few times). I saw early on he needed weaknesses, but in essence I only gave him fear of ridiculously large groups, or irrational fears of cows just to be funny. I thought I was the man, because better authors had given me positive reviews.

I came to this site, and saw the error of my ways. Now As I get to work on him now, he's still the main character and he still gets to do most of the cool stuff. But now I've managed to give him weaknesses (trigger [read: Keyblade] happy, effusive, not the brightest crayon in the box) and I've halved his focus with Sora (who is still superior in power and intellegence), and I found how to make him lovable without FORCING people to love him...

As for other Marty Stus, most of them try to be badasses, wield cool weapons, out-Cloud Cloud and whip Sephiroth's butt with one hand tied behind thier back. I found this irritating, and wish it would stop... ARRRRGGGGGHHHH!
