Ah, the eternal question about the stupidity of fangurlz...

MKIceman had a pretty good theory about it. It went something like: just because you cans peak it doesn't mean you can write it, but that's what the education system thinks. So non-native speakers get a more thorough education in English spelling and grammar than native speakers. (at least I think that was the main thought. If I'm wrong, please correct me. I'm sorry if I misremembered someones argument)

My own two cents: non-native speakers (like me) have a greater respect for the language. Because it's harder to make myself understood, I tend to be more careful about the language. I try to make sure I use the language in the proper way, as to not confuse anyone. Besides that: I've spend years studying English. It's a beautiful language and it deserves to be used with respect. I do tend to mangle my own language every once in while, far more than English. I guess that's the same for the fangurlz. They don't see what's so special about their language, so they aren't as strict about bothersome things like spelling and grammar.

I hope that makes sense,

- Ilse

I've just read the thread with the big words... I got kind of infected...
