I have encountered several people who posted here who did not know the difference. I can only imagine how many more there are in between the site closure and now.

Because the original GAFFers have moved on, and ones who visit barely post (although I have seen a few).

In other words, there is no good name of GAFF left. Besides, The Site Guru would be falling into the same trap of hypocrisy by throwing such a tantrum. In my opinion, The Site Guru has provided good, consistent leadership and service. The "members" -- fans, really -- are what failed GAFF.

No, my mind was made up after The Heywood Show made its appearance in the troll thread. What I wasn't certain about was fandom_wank's relation to this whole mess. I had heard of their hypocrisy, and I still don't agree with their principles (not to mention the fact that they're a blatant rip-off of GAFF), but those comments made about GAFF were perfectly accurate.

If you read any of my posts about them -- though I can't remember if I made any on the InvisionFree board -- then you would know that I don't give a damn what they think since they are no better in many respects. What I did give a damn about were those comments made, some by original GAFF members.

It's not about the "snark" but the methodology and hypocrisy of such. As stated above, it's not about fandom_wank, because they're just as bad: they don't deserve respect from GAFF (i.e., their parent), GAFF deserves respect from them.

For right now, I'll just name Heywood and the Heywood Fanclub(tm). They are most damaging at the moment.

And yes, this is intended to be an attack, not a "veiled threat." If anyone else is offended, that's your right, and I won't apologize for how you interpret or misinterpret my words.

Oh, I know that, and so do you, and so do many others. It's those subversives who don't, and who take it upon themselves to turn GAFF into their own little fanclub with its own little agendae.

>There's plenty of resources out there to help badfic

I agree, which is why I was surprised at this new method of contacting authors. Still, I hoped for the best, and found the worst.

No kidding! And here I thought I was only talking about the subversives, not all of the GAFF fans in general. Silly me!

See the above post about hypocrisy. THAT'S what sullied GAFF's name. I find it hard, these days, to separate what GAFF considers badfic based upon its fans making inconsistent determinations of goodfic. And don't forget bending Agreements and TOSes to suit their will.

This is only echoed by those comments in fandom_wank. If you recall the last board, I made all of these comments in several threads, most notably the "Ho!mione gets raped" thread. It was at that moment when I realized how bad things had truly gotten at GAFF.

>I don't flame, in GAFF's name or my own. But I fail to
>see how discussing things on a messageboard with the
>GAFF logo at the top is somehow going to Ruin The Good
>Name Of GAFF.

A valid point, for you have faith in fans' ability to distinguish between fandom and authority. I have not seen this ability among the majority of posters.
