Just been reading another military site and they have a thread going about soldiers under sentence doing a runner from the guardroom and it brought back a really old memory for me.

Anyone else remember this incident in Lippstadt, about '68?
It's a Friday evening and the guard had not long mounted (49 Bty duty, hence, why I remembered it). This guy appears at the window of the guardroom claiming he wanted to surrender as he had been AWOL for, something like, twenty years! Great scratching of heads and chins as to what to do with the bloke. I believe the RSM was called out to deal with the problem and told the guy to "f**k off smartly before he got a size ten up the 'arris."

Marvelous things the human brain! No telling what rubbish they will disgorge at will is there? Just as an add-on here, I won't be available for a Skype chat until about ten tonight as I must watch 'ER'. It's the last of this series again. Why are good programmes on for such a short time?
