Dave, I may of misinterpreted what you said in reference to this Arrse site, and for that I apologise, but I still consider that the story though very interesting is a good bit of spin doctoring of that era. I have never associated the white lanyard with anything to do with cowardice!
I am still convinced that an incident did occur concerning the Guns, if not then, proberbly at a later date. Historians do tend to manipulate facts to a degree for numerous reasons. Many regiments and corps have skeletons in the cupboard so to speak, just like the majority of us have. Why should the Royal Artillery be an exception! I think it would be very difficult to nail down the actual truth and separate it from the fiction and myths that somewhat cloud what actually happened. Regardless nobody has come up with a reasonable explanation as to why the lanyard was withdrawn and all of a sudden reinstated back in '73!....I think that will remain a mystery, a fascinating one at that, all said and done. What say you?
