"Thank you, Doc," Jade said to Val as he attended to her wounded leg. "It really was only minor..." But the healer informed her that the tiny creature had somehow infected her leg. Fortunately he had a cure. Well... it would seem that there were even more to this small army than met the eye. "In that case... a double thank you is in order," she winked.

She watched Erlic in admiration as he disarmed a couple of complex traps and opened the secret door. She grinned. Such talent in such an attractive package. She knew if she didn't watch herself she was in danger of becoming completely smitten with him. She found that she almost dreaded finding her book, because that would mean that she would have to take it to her employer, thus leaving the fascinating man behind. She began to muse about whether she would be able to come back... if she did would they still be here? Would she be able to find him in the ruins? And, more importantly, would he like her to return?

The party entered a medium sized room in which there was a bed, a desk, and a bunch of those puppets. Jade frowned and was about to burn the things when something struck her in the back and she fell forward onto the floor. She turned and looked up. There was what looked like a floating skull hovering above her. It was nothing like Barry, however. It was clearly carved from a block of wood, its sharp pointy teeth and glittering eyes intended to intimidate. And it had a string sticking up from the middle of its cranium that went straight up into the ceiling.

She kept her eyes on the skull as it launched itself at her, its jaw snapping as it tried to bite her with those teeth. She had no doubt that they would be razor sharp. Weren't they always?

She lifted her hand and cast a small flame spell at the creature, figuring if it was wood it would burn. But nothing happened. She cursed softly as the thing moved in on her. Suddenly she lifted both legs, bracing herself on her elbows, and gave the thing a great kick, sending it flying into the wall. Its jaw popped off from the impact.

She just had time to glance around and see that the others were fighing some kind of giant puppets that looked disturbingly human-like. She wished she had time to watch Erlic... his movements were so smooth and graceful yet deadly. Watching him caused some memory to tickle at the back of her mind, but she didn't have time to dwell on it as the skull came flying at her again.

This time the sharp teeth, exposed now that the bottom jaw was gone, sliced into her arm as she raised it to protect her face. She pointed her hand at it, palm outward, and cast an icebolt at the thing. The skull continued to attack, but she could tell by its appearance that it was now frozen solid. She gave it another hard kick as it rushed at her, its teeth ready to slice her flesh yet again, and it was sent hurtling into the wall again. This time, however, the impact shattered the frozen skull, ending its existence.

Jade got up, wincing slightly at the pain in her arm, and gasped as she saw Isobel on the floor before one of the larger puppets, covered in tiny puppets and yelling for someone to cut the strings... her eyes went to the strings that rose from the humanlike puppet's limbs. Of course! Someone was moving toward it and then had blocked it, so she was unable to cast any spells to get rid of the strings. And she couldn't cast a spell at the smaller puppets without injuring Isobel as well. She snarled softly in frustration.

She ran over and began kicking at the smaller puppets, sending them flying off of the feisty woman. She hoped someone else was able to take care of the big guy or they were both in trouble.
