Erlic was glad to see Rowan back on his feet, and realizing that the elf would be able to make the journey, Erlic followed after Jade, who seemed quite intense upon finding out what exactly was down within the depths of the stairway. She grabbed his glowstick, and quickly followed the others back down.

Once Erlic arrived at the bottom, he didn’t think of the dreaded smell permeating the place. Rather, he was quite engrossed at the assortment of bodies that were hanging by the spider threads, and how they had been dismembered. He almost find it intriguing as to how the bodies were cut open, and actually gazed at the method employed to slice them open. It wasn’t something he particularly enjoyed, but he really wanted to understand the reasoning behind the Sharm’s or whoever caused this, method.

Jade shed some more light on the subject as she explained about those that didn’t choose to convert, and how a fate more horrible awaited them. Obviously these were the people that didn’t feel like resorting to another religion, and thus met their own fate. He took another look around before following the others down the tunnel.

His eyes constantly eyed the walls, and the ceiling, looking for any signs of traps, even though he knew that Ravin was more than qualified for the job. However, the man seemed quite shocked at what had been displayed in front of him, and hadn’t taken it too well. Perhaps it had something to do with Ravin’s empathy that allowed the man to actually feel the emotions that emanated from the corpses.

They approached a chamber filled with spiders feeding, and mating. This was quickly averted, until they finally came to a large opening. Here within the deep area of the earth was another world altogether, one filled with spiders, and human/spiders, and if they weren’t careful, would probably find themselves either a member of their race, or dead. Either option was not too inviting at the time, but the village posed a threat for any future endeavor, and they had to do something to remedy it.

“I see we have visitors,” Erlic stated to Jade who stood by his side. He was still trying to figure out why he was attracted to the mysterious woman, and also why she had no trouble dealing with him. He had tried, or so he thought, to engage in conversation, and friendship with Laurel, but somehow it never seemed to go anywhere. His master had always stated that Fate had a big hand in determining the nature of events, and how they might turn out. Perhaps it stemmed from the old saying that opposites attracted each other. He, and Laurel were somewhat passive, and really didn’t speak all that much. Jade seemed much more forward, and perhaps that was why he found her different. He didn’t dwell on the thought too much longer for they could be seen at any moment. They needed to construct a plan, and quickly.

He pulled Jade off to the side, and whispered in her ear. “I know you don’t want to reveal your magical abilities, but I hope I can rely on you if they’re needed.” Before waiting for an answer he brought the group together. When he had everyone’s attention he started to speak. “We’re going to need some distant weapons once a diversion is created, which I will take care of.” He pointed to a stalagmite off in the distance. “I’m going to try to make that stalagmite fall on top of the building located at its base. Once that happens Ravin, I need you to take out whoever might be there. If there are others…” Before he could continue he spotted Valhorek preparing a bow, and notching an arrow. “Good Val, you take out those you can. Tristan, if you can fire as many as possible, it would be greatly appreciated.” He looked to Jade, and gave her his smile, hoping that she would employ her powers should the need arise. “Those that do get away, well Marz, Corum, and the rest will have to dispatch them. Understood?”

Erlic quickly took out his bow, although at first it didn’t look like a bow. He snapped the two ends into place, and secured them carefully. He then notched the gut string from end to end. He pulled out an arrow with no tip on it, and carefully examined the fletches on it. He then pulled out a strange circular device, which he screwed onto the tip of the arrow. He pulled out some more arrows, and stuck them into the ground so they’d be conveniently ready. “Everyone ready?” He looked around hoping that everyone had decided on what to do.

He kneeled on his right knee, and positioned himself, pulling back the string of the bow, and holding it in place as he concentrated on the area of the stalagmite. He let loose, and the arrow flew straight, and hit its mark. A resounding explosion rocked the underground as the special arrow head contacted with the stalagmite, and formed a crack around its base, causing it to lean, and tumble on top of whatever houses where in the immediate area.

The special devices had been found in one of those obscure places, which no one but the elite, knew about in a very large city. Being an assassin, he had been made privy to the exploding arrow heads that could be bought. When he arranged for a purchase, he also found they had those that turned into smoke bombs as well. He made sure he bought several of the items, even though they were high priced. Once he had returned to the specialist’s guild, he handed them over to Boris, who quickly disassembled the items to see their inner workings, and started to produce them for the guild. Erlic never traveled anywhere without them.

Once the stalagmite toppled over, many of the spider creatures could be seen scampering all over the place. Erlic waited for those with the distance weapons to do their job. He quickly notched a regular arrow into his bow, and waited.
