Jade sipped her java, sitting on the bed next to Erlic. She was enjoying his closeness and the kisses he continued to bestow upon her.

She nodded as he told her what the plan was for the day. Then, for some reason, he decided to tell her about some advice his mentor had given him.

“He said that we have to stick to our perceptions, and to our feelings. That is where experience, philosophy, and self-refinement come in. We know that we have accomplished things, we know that we can coordinate what we perceive with established principles, and we trust that our beings are finely tuned enough to accurately feel what is around us. What we do in life is up to us, and will not be known all at once. Therefore, we have to feel our way along, little by little, building the vision to know what we are individually meant to do. We can’t let doubt interfere with our touch. We have to trust our touch.”

She turned her head and looked at him. Had he read her mind? She had just been pondering what the future would hold for them, and he came up with advice that fit her questions exactly.

"Smart man, your mentor," she said thoughtfully.

Eventually they finished their java and fruit and Jade dressed and gave Erlic one more kiss before they headed out to the fire, where Ravin and Isobel were sitting with the Jann.

Ravin mentioned that there were two more temples to explore and of course there were all those other buildings. Jade wondered if the book was in one of the temples or one of the other buildings.

Suddenly there were some strange noises coming from the entrance to this underground city. Erlic was of course immediately alert, as were Ravin and Isobel. Jade drew her dagger, looking about warily.

“Watch yourself, and try to take cover,” Erlic whispered to Jade giving her a quick peck on the cheek before running off. Jade smiled and nodded as she watched him take off. She was sure he would be fine. He was an excellent fighter.

Jade took cover behind a nearby stalagmite just as two of the were-spiders appeared, lunging at one of the Jann, who was parrying with a large scimitar. Jade darted behind the spider creature and rolled under it, ramming her dagger up into its belly and yanking it upward, slitting the creature's gut open. She quickly rolled back out of the way of the spilling guts, though some of the gore managed to land on her arm. She wiped it off and got to her feet, only to find the second spider creature nearly on top of her. She quickly hurled a lightbolt at the thing, taking off the top of its head as the bolt entered its eye.

She turned to see if the others needed help. She reached into the pouch at her belt and pulled out another charcoal stick, preparing to crush it and cast a fireball should it be needed.
