The patrol had finally finished their run for the day, checking out various areas of the ruins of the city. It was common for them to see if any strangers had wandered into the area, and possibly dispose of them in any manner suitable to them.

They were headed back toward the secret opening that led down to the spider dwelling when all of a sudden the leader stopped the group. Somehow there had been a collapse of the opening, thus blocking their entrance. The leader thought this most unusual since when they had first checked out the surroundings, found it quite sturdy, and he didn’t think it could ever cave in.

He led the group back, making their way toward the temple where they spotted the altar moved showing the secret passage going down. They carefully made their way down the stairs, and up the first passageway. That’s when they spotted the dead spiders, spider people burned to a cinder. The leader looked around warily, realizing something had come down here to destroy their people.

They all drew their weapons, and quietly started to head down the other passageway, the one leading to the spider city. They stopped just short of the entrance, as the leader peered around to see what had happened. The usual activity associated with the city had ceased, and he found no spider person around, however he did happen to spot the campfire where the Jann, and some humans, had camped.

He turned and alerted his people. All of them started to transform into the half human, half spider form as they readied their weapons for an attack.

Erlic, and Jade exchanged some more kisses, and possibly some more touching as well, before they finished up the java, and fruit. Erlic hoped that there would be other opportunities to get to know the woman better, and he hoped that she shared his sentiment. Jade had finished dressing, and Erlic could only think about her for the moment, although he had other matters on his mind. It was back to business as usual for the moment, after all, he felt the safety of the group part of his concern. Together, Erlic, and Jade walked out of the building, and eventually joined Ravin, and Isobel who were at the campfire the Jann had made earlier.

Erlic, and Jade had overheard Ravin mention that they had two more temples to explore, as well as a number of large buildings. His suggestion of breaking up into two groups was quite satisfactory with the guild master since he thought it an appropriate idea. The sooner they got out of here, the sooner they would get back to Kazabet’s castle, not that he really wanted to, but he realized that a threat would be waiting for them, and something would have to be done about it.

A noise alerted Erlic, and he quickly followed the sound as he spotted a group of spider people transforming themselves, and heading into the spider city with weapons drawn. He was about to alert Ravin, and Isobel, and realized they also had heard the sound, and had their weapons drawn.

“Watch yourself, and try to take cover,” Erlic whispered to Jade giving her a quick peck on the cheek before running off. He moved from stalagmite to stalagmite until he was close enough to use his shurikens. He quickly downed two of the creatures, but had alerted them to his position. He quickly had his katana out as he tried to keep within the shadows of the stalagmites. Somehow he managed to get behind the group, and quickly cut down one of the last creatures of the group.

He turned in time to see another of the creatures attacking him with a sword. He quickly parried the attack, and carefully moved around watching the creature’s eyes. He had managed to gain a view of the others attacking the spider creatures, and realized that hopefully this would be a short-lived battle.

All thoughts of the lovemaking with Jade were now a thing of the past as his Ninja capabilities took over. He carefully moved around the creature waiting for it to make the first move. As soon as it attacked, Erlic quickly countered, and sliced one of its legs off. On, and on it went until Erlic found an opening, stabbing the creature to its death.

He quickly looked around to see if the others needed his assistance as he made his way toward the campfire, putting the enemy between him, and his friends.
