Jade was just starting to tell Marz about the book she needed him to keep an eye out for when Tristan came waltzing up sucking on something.

“What’s taking so long?” he asked Marz, totally ignoring Jade.

Jade frowned. Hadn't she just asked to speak to Marz in private? She knew Tristan had heard her. What was his problem? Couldn't he be two feet from Marz for the few minutes it took her to talk to him? And why the hell was he being so rude interrupting and ignoring the fact that she was standing there talking?

She sighed, calming her annoyance. She took hold of Marz's sleeve and tugged him aside, smiling at Tristan. "Won't be but a minute... then you can have him back. I promise to be gentle."

Once she had Marz a short distance away she whispered quickly, keeping her eyes on Tristan in case he decided to follow them again.

"I need to find a book. I don't know where it is except it's supposed to be somewhere in these ruins. It's not in any language I can read, but it has a red cover with embossed lettering. The letters used to be black, but have probably worn off over time. The main thing to look for, though, is a built-in bookmark with a small metal skull on the end of it. Can you keep that for me if you find it?" She would offer to pay him for his help if he seemed reluctant, but there was no need.

When Marz nodded she grinned. "Thanks so much. You're a peach." She leaned over and kissed his cheek then winked at Tristan before heading back to where Erlic sat.

She resumed her seat and smiled at him, sliding her arm around him and letting her fingertips slowly brush his side. "I've asked Marz to help me find what I'm looking for, darling." She leaned in, kissing his ear softly as she whispered, "It's a book... red cover... black lettering (probably faded)... bookmark built in and a skull at the end of it." She pulled back, eyes sparkling as she smiled. "In case you were curious. And that, my darling Erlic, is my purpose here. I was commissioned to retrieve the book."

She grinned broadly. "How fortunate for me to be here at the very time you are, too. It must be fate."
