Subject: quiet words
In reply to: Tristan 's message, "Grr" on 14:32:39 02/15/02 Fri

Saras sat, so quiet and still that he might have been a doll. His red hair tied up in little braids laced with beads, precious stones and the occasional spotted brown feathers. He so small and delicate had be not been breathing, he might have been mistaken for some strange life-sized child’s toy. He was not one to anger, but he didn’t like what Tristan had said to Jeremy. He knew what it was to want love. Since his creation, he had longed for the human emotions he was not capable of. He knew they would be problematic, but he knew what it was to want love. He had been very envious of humans, before coming to terms with what he was. Before he had seen the logic of not having such emotions.

To want to be noticed by someone was natural, he thought. And because he did not possess the most powerful of human emotions, such as Love and intense anger and jealousy, he couldn’t understand the hostility coming form the dragon and directed towards his friend. It was such an alien thing, even for him.

Despite his ravenous hunger, Saras didn’t do more then stare at the food and the bottle of wine. He wanted to say something, to defend Jeremy from Tristan’s insinuation that Jeremy wasn’t wanted. It wasn’t true after all. Saras liked Jeremy… he had been his friend from the moment he’d arrived, and rarely left his side, when not even his own master stayed that close to him. Jeremy was usually the one who comforted him, when he burst into tears. He thought that Jeremy should have been the one to have his flask... He had never known a master who hadn’t kept him close, and felt lost without Ravin as his companion, and the flask ever present. He had always become close friends with people other then his Master, but his Master had always been his most reassured friend. The closest thing to a loved one that he could have. Well, except for one, but Saras had only been awake for two days with that one… and the man had been most unpleasant and awful. But that had been one among many.

Jeremy was different. He had wishes in his heart, but that wasn’t why he kept Saras close. Saras didn’t actually know why Jeremy let him tag along, but for once, for the first time, he felt that he was closer to someone other then his Master, and he didn’t understand that at all. He would be sad when Ravin made his two final wishes. He would miss Jeremy terribly.

“You…you shouldn’t talk to him like that.” Saras said quietly, before looking at Tristan, tears filling his large eyes. “…I think I would be very lonely without Jeremy… he’s been kind to me. I… I don’t think it’s wrong for him to seek love… even if it could only be for a little while.”
