Erlic had to agree with Ravin about the chests, and leaving someone behind to guard it. There was no sense in taking it now since they had much of the city to search, for both Kazabet’s magical items as well as Sheikh Daraba’s throne. It would prove quite prudent to simply leave Justin behind along with Alakbar, since he would be needed safe.

"Since the trunk itself isn't trapped maybe we can just cart the entire thing off with us when we leave. I think those Rocs can carry quite a bit and Kazabet might give us a big bonus once she sees all those tomes."

Erlic realized that his fellow thief’s ideas carried a lot of merit, and quickly agreed with his friend. Although they had gems enough for everyone, the value of the books, obviously mage books, would bring in a great fortune. After all, they didn’t have to worry about touching the books anymore, and would merely present them to Kazabet for her viewing. If she wished to purchase them, then she could remove the traps, and they would be all that much richer.

Erlic closed the lids of both chests, and watched as Ravin headed towards a picture that hung crookedly on the west wall. In no time at all, his fellow thief had managed to dispose of any traps, and had unlocked the safe. He expected Ravin to tell him what was inside the chest, but the words he spoke sent some fear down Erlic’s spine.

"Eremis knows about the secret entrance that leads into the tavern. You better send word and warn them to post some guards by that oak tree."

It was such a tiny yet immense detail that had escaped his mind as well. Erlic hadn’t known about the secret door until the time that Ravin had made his appearance inside the tavern. It was then that Erlic realized the man hadn’t come through the front door, and had immediately questioned Ravin, a stranger at the time, about how he had gained admission.

It was a time of taut nerves as both Erlic, and Ravin played the game of cat, and mouse, each trying to outdo the other, but in the end, they did become very good friends, and Ravin had explained how the tunnels honeycombed the area below Bizmar, and its surrounding areas. He had forgotten that detail, a very important one, and quickly pulled out his mirror with Dalo.

Erlic normally had a great deal of patience, trust, and reliability in the men that worked for him. Not once in all the years that Dalo had worked for him did he ever bother not to respond to any messages, regardless of what type of circumstance he might be in. As Erlic waited patiently for the beast master to answer, it suddenly dawned on him that the warning might be too late. But too late for what? What had Tegol planned if anything? These thoughts weighed heavily on Erlic’s mind. After several, what appeared eternally long minutes, Erlic simply looked up to meet Ravin’s stare. “I’m afraid that we might be too late. Dalo always answers, regardless of what he’s doing. Something has happened of which we have no control over.”
